In your experience, what social media site have you had the most luck getting attention for your games or assets?

Only this site lol

I tried out reddit, not much luck just yet, may try Discord sometime. I know Discord is probably better with community building, while stuff like Instagram is great for spreading the word. I know nothing about marketing, so this thread should be interesting...

My own website.

Seriously, there's no magical solution for getting noticed. You have to be in a bunch of places, and be active. It's called social media for a reason. No matter where you go, people won't know you exist unless you interact with them first. That's equally true on a (micro)blogging platform or a good old forum.

Have something to show. Have something to say. But mainly, be there.

I believe the concept can be called bootstrapping. You need to be well known to be well known.

Posting on social media y won't do you any good, if you are not already known on social media y.

Twitter, sadly. Itch is amazing for hosting but not great for discovery, you need to build your own audience and direct them here.

I thought Twitter was in a death spiral, is it still good for finding an audience?

Also, do you have an opinion on Threads? I tried using it but they currently don't have a tagging system so discovery is kind of difficult...

Twitter is still good, mostly because my target audience congregates there. But if I were to start again I definitely wouldn't choose it.

Tiktok is 100% the way to go, no other social media comes close. Figure out how to translate your content to video - gameplay, workload, tips, day in the life of a dev, etc - and just stick with it.
