One-Time Payments and Updates

Hello everyone,

I was thinking of creating a paid download option for my PWYW game which would allow users to receive updates early, but I have a few questions regarding this.

1. When you update a file with the same name of an already-uploaded one, it overwrites the old one. Does itch.io notice index it as an update? I'm asking this because...

2. If I have a paid download and then update the game (not with the same name so it doesn't overwrite), will users have to pay again for the newer version? I don't want them to. It's supposed to be a one-time payment for a life-long early access.

If people won't have to pay again (I'm obviously always setting the same price), I'll simply go with the second option. If people will have to pay again, I'd rather go with the first option, but I fear that going it that way will result in the game not being indexed when an early update is uploaded.

I know an option could be to create a separate page, but I would really rather avoid that if possible.

1. No, for that you'll have to post a devlog marked as Major Release or Update, as explained in lots and lots of topics.

2. No, once someone buys a game, they have access to all future updates, as explained in lots and lots of topics.
