Hey everyone I’m currently designing a main character for a platformer project I’m working on and am struggling to decide on a colour.

Which one would you pick if you could choose?

Aplomb the lazy ninja

Lazy ninja in training

orange, it would stand out best against the saturated green backgrounds. if you still want something desaturated, I would suggest red.

the sprout motif for a character in training is such a good idea!

Color theory comes to the rescue! Yes, orange will stand out the best against the background

Thanks for the input really appreciated. Awesome creator page as well.

If you had to choose a colour without considering the background would you choose orange? Even a colour not displayed in example. Say any hex code.

hope you don't mind the edit. according to the color wheel and theory, your accent colors of orange, green, and yellow means purple/indigo is a good contrast. it also has the bonus of being very "classic ninja"

I agree with the others - orange stands out the best.

But since it's a ninja, you might not want that.

These three colours stand out the best - in order: orange, green, blue

I'd go with grey (c) if you want the ninja to be less noticeable.

Green fits your plant motif the best.

Thanks for the input. Appreciated.

Different monitors give different colors. (☆_@)
A ninja is black unless he's a turtle.

Never thought about the monitor thing interesting point. Cheers

A cause it's more convincing as a ninja.

Thanks that’s my favourite colour scheme personally and the one I was kind of hoping everyone would choose. Thanks for your input.

I don’t think the character has to be black or dark colors because that’s what makes sense realistically speaking. It depends on the character’s personality, the story, the tone of the game, your already existing art direction, etc. But sometimes a character can be more memorable because they have contrasting themes. Maybe there could be a fun story reason why the ninja has a particular color. It’s okay to be creative with it.

I think a lot of the variations could work. I encourage you to play with the colors of the belt and accessories too. My personal favorite variants are the black, yellow and the purple (someone else posted) so far. Green makes me think ‘nature’ less ninja and more druid.
