Every time I visit a page (even from my own), I got this English-Hindu popup. Any ideas?

I am browsing my Itch feed today when I got this English-Hindu popup on every single page that I visit, even my own, on 1 PM GMT+8 (it does not appear before this). It even appears even if I am not logged in.

Any ideas? Is this a bug?

P.S. (1:50 PM GMT+8) I cannot believe a lot of people has experienced this thing around the same time, I thought I had done something wrong to be honest.

Keep in mind that I only encountered this popup on game pages (not on profile or store pages).

I’m really sorry, this notice was mistakenly displayed across a large number of pages for a short period of time. A coding glitch caused this to show up when it wasn’t supposed to. If you saw this notice, your account is not affected in any way. There is no issue with your account and its relationship to our spam detector.

This notice is a very extreme dialog we’re experimenting with a subset of accounts that are doing continued aggressive spamming to see if it has any impact on their behavior. No regular user would normally see this.

Once again, I’m really sorry for the false alarm. I understand how scary this message is.

Thanks

Hey there leafo, that's a load off! 😌

Also fight the spammers! 😤

Interesting approach. Maybe it works.

I fear this is only giving them feedback, how they trigger automated systems. Motivating them not to waste their time and up their spam and scam tactics.

But it explains why most of the games I reported are still up. Staff is overworked right now.

There should be a faq about how to report in a way that staff has less work veryfying if the issue in the report is valid.

Historically, accounts suspended for spam are shadow banned. We’re testing a theory that since we don’t communicate to spammers in any way, they think their posting is working, so they communicate to their network and it invites many more spammers who post things that are seen by no-one but fill up our database. The types of accounts we’re targeting here are different than what you might be seeing, as they are detectable with high level of confidence. (Think Viagra ads, and the like)

But it explains why most of the games I reported are still up.

I only see one report on your account, are you created reports somewhere else?

Interesting thought. Yeah, if they think what they do is working, they might just do more, because it looks like it is working. But itch is such  a honey pot. I doubt they would be discouraged, and instead just change method. Maybe some forms of spamming can be deterred, like you say,   it is the stuff that does not even reach me.

The "fake download button scammer" that is at it every week   (now with different method), you could communicate with. He replies to comments sometimes ;-)

Edit: the reported games are all gone in the meantime.

Since there is no scam/malware option, I am unsure what category I should report or which info  I should give to make work easier.  Or what I should not write in the box lest I make it complicated. I think two of the reports got quarantined rather quickly, making me think stuff was overworked and could not look at the rest yet.

It's currently 10PM PST, it just appeared for me too. Wasn't appearing earlier in the day.

Can confirm this is happening for both me and my partner as well, regardless of checking this on our computers, phones, private vs public browsing, etc. Even used a VPN to check if it could be replicated there and sure enough we got the English-Hindu pop-up as well.

I worry the site might have been breached, rather than it being a bug. :o(

Chiming in on this as well, I'm getting the same message.  Oddly, it seems to be on games I've visited before.  Found a new game who's tab I kept open all day.  When I refreshed the page, I didn't get the message on the page.  Only happens to pages I accessed prior to today.

Same problem here. It started around 10PM. So weird.

edit: even when logging out and trying on other devices. Must be a bug.

Just happened to me as well, either we all got called in for posting spam or there is a glitch i dunno.
