I have a question. Our devlog thread has been auto closed because there were no “updates in a while” and we did not know about this time limit. Can it be re-opened or do we have to instead make a completely new thread?

yeah, I want to know, too. my devblog has been closed for the same reason.

make video uploaders I need to add ads to my devlogs

How long 'till a devlog is archived?
I started a devlog but wasn't able to keep it going before it got auto-archived.
That information should be on the rules.

I think this devlog feature should attached / linked to game published on store or user may attach / link it later once game is published...
When uploading a devlog to game page you may chose to have it featured on game page or not and have it send here...

Yes, I too wondered why devlog created on my game page was not showing up in forum devlog.

When implementing the hands, we forgot to resize. It's odd to have baby hands as a fully grown adult 😂

I have some thoughts. Maybe some ppl already tells this.

1) There are ITHIO main page with Developers log and there forum DEVLOGS thread. Sounds similiar. But on diffrent platforms. One is main page and one is forum engine.  So it is not easy to get the diference for the first time

2) Implement this devlogs to main page. As a section. In order to easy watch all this stuff.

3) Devlogs. Make it about anything about dev life. Games you play, music you listen. And of course, main idea is keep about dev progress. Some pixel art training. Some articles about dev related things. Maybe about movie you watched, that inspired you. About yourself a little. So i think, can use this DEVLOG as a theme for my not published on ITCHIO projects. So DEVELOPERS LOG on main page is for ITHCIO published games dev logs. And this dev log can be for anything else. And rename it to just BLOG for you or for your non ITCHIO published games, your pixel art, hobbies and etc.

I agree with point no # 1. I even wondered why my devlog in game page was not shown in forum devlog and vice versa. They should link both of them, so that games get visibility in forum devlogs, when a developer posts devlog in his game page.

Also, in forum devlog, I'm not able to increase the game progress from 30% to 40% for my game "Thirayan". It looks like I need to create a new devlog, every time I want to increase game's progress in devlog. I couldn't find answer for this anywhere on internet.

add statistics two times in month, highscores of players in new released games and likes on category, (graphic, story, sound, fun, bonus), shortvideos, open help to fix bugs let people join.

Projects to collaborate topic, make team based games and let itch users to share game sources and than build latest version of games, but once a project topic post (inside sub forum: grapics, programming, sounds, concept design - with notify updated partial source and complete build).

What really needs improving here is having more active people on board with this community! When I post something about my upcoming game I only got 2 people replying to me! Isn't that a horrible pity?! What are most people here looking for or what are they expecting? Most people here should know better that this isn't Game Jolt and not just some store where they can only come to buy games, I join this site to find gamers and creative people like me to chat about my work and showing it at the same time! It will take me time to bring up a demo of all my games. I just want to talk and show what I currently got at the moment. Plus I like a better page or something where I can talk to more people instead of waiting for replies for days. I hope you understand my issue here.

Well, I feel the same way, in the “Release Announcement”, very few people will go to see them.

What I'm looking for at the moment is a devlog that I can use to post a teaser for my next adult project.  Ideally it would go to my followers and be visible to anyone else with Adult content enabled.

If I create an unpublished project, will anyone be able to see the devlogs for it?

If the project is tagged Adult, who will the devlog be visible to? Anyone or only those who want to see adult content?

Can we post adult content in the devlog forum?

I see others have asked about this, but I haven't seen a reply - is there a way to unarchive the threads that were locked for inactivity?

My thread got locked while I was moving overseas and didn't have a computer for a little while - but I am very much still working on the thing, especially now that I have a PC again. So..... do I make a new thread, even though one already exists? Or is there anything that can be done for the old one?

As i use it. And i see the other users are using it - yes, you just simple creating a new thread.

Actually, as i see it. It is not a big deal. So, you just write about your current state. So, is it all in onme thread or separated into several threads actually is not a big deal.

Hello! Is it possible to download posts from my devlog into md files (for example)? It is not possible via API, as far as i can see, and since devlogs are not pay-protected - API is an overkill, imho.

my usecase: i have a site (landing page) for a game, the site generated with Hugo static site generator. I want to keep adding devlogs entries for my game on itch.io AND THEN show them on game landing page, from time to time. And to avoid manual copy-paste work for keeping landing page up-to-date - it would be cool to have python library (or any cross-platform solution, win+mac at least), that can grab my latest devlog posts and save them as md files locally in proper place for later use with Hugo generator

Hi leafo! First of all, THANKS!  I DO LIKE this DevLogs board very much. Brilliant!... but.......hey, you knew a "but" was coming....:

Among this Board's (DevLogs) rules, one is is for allowing only  "unfinished" projects which is somewhat confusing to me; because,....is there such a thing as a "finished" project? (meaning done 100%). Seasoned Software developers say: "there is no such a thing as a completed project....only ABANDONED projects. To what you might reply: "if you released the project, then you consider it 100% done so it doesn't belong in this Board".  But then I would say: "No, it is not done.  It is USABLE and/or PLAYABLE and/or STABLE; so I released it but there is a lot to come after the release (specially once you get user's feedback) and it is impossible for me to know at what percentage it is right now".

Some of us want more visibility for our projects, and this would help:

I think you could allow any "completed" games in this DevLogs Board if the author think there will be ANY improvements in the future. I'd like to see what others would comment about this.

I do understand that for Released Games authors have the DevLogs in the games's pages. But there you, as an author, do not get as much "traffic" or "views" as you might get in this Board. On the other hand,  you were asking "how to make this board better", so... IMHO,  again,   I think allowing authors to post their progress HERE would make this board better.

Thanks again!

Why not try and make this devlog forum into a more technical one (by devs for devs) while the one on the game page would be a more general one (by devs for players) which doesn't get into technical parts of game development and instead focuses on the gameplay aspects.

A cool feature to add would be the ability to show parts of the game page devlog here so that people can go more in-depth on how those features were made. (something that might not be good to put in a devlog thats read by everyday players who don't make games)

On another note the devlog forum isn't that visible, as you have to enter the community tab first and then find it. Instead when clicking on the Developer Logs tab it should either ask which one to go to or somehow display both Forum devlogs and game page devlogs.

I like this idea. Though keeping up with two dev logs instead of one can be a challenge.
I will admit I do a bad job documenting the technical bits when I work on a project.

Maybe have a feature that allows you to add technical notes like they do on text books?

Would be fun for a reader to come across the devs notes while reading through. (not that I read that many dev logs ^^;

Please, make it work at least =))))

Ok, I got the idea!

I have to have a project first.

So, the dialog with some meaningful text, when trying to convert a post to a devlog entry, would be very handy =)

I think this forum should concentrate on the fact that you can post devlogs here for games that you haven't put up on itch.io yet, so for the projects that are not finished games yet (at least that's how I've experienced it, correct me if I'm wrong). Maybe you could build on that aspect and add additional features for promoting a not-finished product, I feel like itch is still lacking features for that

I think I would prefer if devlogs were automatically also put in this forum when you posted them. Or at least there could be a checkbox you could tick.

Alternatively (just brainstorming here), make it so that when I post a devlog, have a thread be generated here with either the full devlog or an except, and a link to the actual devlog on the project page where people can add comments and whatnot. The except would be written by the poster (have a separate textbook labeled Excerpt) or just be the first x words or whatever.

Also I like the idea of curated devlogs.
