Once I have granted permissions (chmod +x nw) to the nw file, when I execute it (via ~/Downloads/Hardware Tycoon (Linux 64-bit)$ ./nw ) I get the message "Opening in existing browser session". running it with open or closed browsers does not affect anything, and i have chromium, Firefox, and chrome.
