Hey everyone!
If you've been following the conversations happening on the Fari Community Discord, you know that Charge is about to be updated to include some changes to its Fortune Roll and Position mechanics.
Once everything is merged and approved by the community, I'm going to do a full devlog about the changes.
But for now, don't you worry. What we are planning to change are "minor" updates. Which means that the game you are playing right now is not going to be that different from the ones with the update.
There is no "breaking changes" in this update, as it will mostly focus on making things clearer and easier to understand for everyone.
The Changes
The TLDR of the changes is that
- The text for the fortune rolls is going to be updated. It will now outline that you can use fortune rolls to determine the outcome of actions if no other roll applies to the situation. For example, if the situation is not risky enough, but you still want to roll for fun! You can also use an action rating to build the dice pool of a fortune roll, but doing a roll like this won't generate momentum nor will it feature consequences. Discord thread.
- The terms position (controlled/risky/deperate) are going to be renamed to risk (low, moderate, high). This is because most tend to agree that explaining "position" is actually kind of hard in general. Going with something like "low-risk roll" or "high-risk roll" is just an easier term to grasp. Moreover, the fact that you want to "increase your position" (risky => controlled ) but the rating associated with it is getting lower (2 => 1) creates a very strange dynamic. The changes I'm planning to write will basically explain that you want to aim for the highest effect and lowest of risk when making a roll. By using the term risk, the rating getting lower is also something that is easier to understand. Discord thread.

Fortune Roll Updates
The new text for the fortune roll mechanic has already been pushed in a merge request on github for Charge RPG, the Charge SRD and Dash.
