90% of new game uploads in the Adult category are keyloggers

For the past couple of weeks, the Adult category in Games have been running rampant with keyloggers. People are starting accounts, stealing artwork from other games in the same category and then adding keylogging programs to them in hopes that people will download and use these programs to steal sensitive information.

If comments are disabled in any of the Games category, it would be safe to stay far away from downloading any of these.

Hello,

Thanks for your concern. We’re aware of the scammer and have been working in the background to disable the pages and update our rules around how we detect these pages to prevent them from appearing in the first place. Sadly this is often a “cat and mouse” game where we have to adjust our strategy as they try to circumvent our blocks.

Everything I’ve spoken about in this topic is very relevant: https://itch.io/t/1659440/psa-beware-discord-scammers

Please continue to report pages that you find as we use user reports to train our system. Sadly, we receive many user reports and they range in quality and priority quite greatly. Generally we will not respond directly to the report, but submitting it is still helpful.

We also do not share the details of how we handle detection and suspending of these pages outside of what I’ve written here because often the scammers themselves are reading these posts.

Thanks

100% understandable trying to chase down people like this. I really do appreciate your reply and time.

Thanks, but making vague, general accusations here doesn't help. Please report any suspicious game using the little link in the page footer, so our admins can take a look.

First of all, I didn't make any vague or general accusations. I have tested every single one of them and found every game they stolen art from and notified those authors (if their contact details were available publicly). I can post a repost on here of every game over the last 2 weeks with the keylogger program, name of verified author of stolen game information and artwork on here, but all that information probably wouldn't be welcomed on a simple forum thread.

Second, I made sure to report every game that I found the keylogging info and stolen game information, but the only thing that was received was the general report submission e-mail. These games continue to stay in the directory even after being reported. I have also sent e-mail to the administration at itch.io about these programs and offered help to filter out these programs so they wouldn't prey on the numerous people downloading them.

All I wanted was to at least give a warning to the people here about these programs being ignored by itch.io even after notifying them numerous times. I have no idea the workload of itch.io and I am not stating they are ignoring this on purpose as this is a heavily used platform and to go through every single report daily is an issue that I know personally is an impossibility. Even so, I still wanted to at least make a public post for any that do go to these public forums and threads to know.

I will discontinue any report notifications and tracking as they don't seem to be doing any good then.

After going through the directory this morning (after making a response post above) miraculously every game I reported in the last few weeks have been removed and cleansed from the category. Hopefully whomever over sees these false game submissions keeps an eye out for the safety of all itch.io users.
