YT Sub Advise from other gamers?

Our channel has been grinding for years, admittedly, with very interrupted upload schedules. At our peak we hit 250 subs in a few months with quality content 3 times a week. With YT's new algorithms in upload frequency and the birth of my first daughter, our sub counter plummeted to 150. It was only recently that I started putting videos up again in my spare time and we have climbed back to 190 odd.

My point is this, I see a lot of channels with terrible content, horrible audio and huge gaps in there speech... yet they have 200, 500, 1000 or 5000 subs in 12 months??? In fact, we had a comment on one of our videos saying "How do you guys not have more subs?" Which made me wonder the same thing.

Is there somewhere I should be posting out content for exposure? How exactly do we 'get our content out there'?

I just updated all out video tags to maximize SEO but other than that... I'm not sure what else to do?? What am I missing?

Any ideas are welcome!

You're just uploading content or you're also promoting the channel and being active on social media to others?

The "build it and they will come" only works if you're lucky. If not you should advertise and be active on social media like crazy.

Comment on others people videos, and showing interest on others can take you a long way.

Also there are a lot of let's play channels, so that's a tough market

I'm not sure this will help your specific case, but if you are covering itch.io games then definitely leave a comment on the game's page with your video embedded. People appreciate more footage of games and it can help people find your channel.
