So, I take the wilds of Raana are not accessible? I created a couple of gunslingers intending to earn my bread in the jungle -- but I never could find a way out of the city... Or, did I just miss something huge?
Masters of Raana may contain content you must be 18+ to view.
Are you 18 years of age or older?
No, that's right. MoR is still in early development so that feature is a couple of months away. The best things you can do as a gunslinger right now are working for the vendors, doing quests, and searching for enemies in Westside slums.
I'm currently expanding the Westside slum district with more enemies and interesting locations. It'll be a perfect place for well-armed adventurers when this goes live. Then, after completing the other districts, I'll move on to the high-level outskirts.
So, another comment -- this one a little more broad and revolving around the core mechanic of sex and slavery in the game...
First, I like that the MC has a sex drive that is always increasing and (presumably) has to be managed. I never got past "throbbing," but I took this as a serious motivation and acted accordingly. However, attempts to sate that drive ran into a serious hurtle with regards to the slaves he owns. He took them for long walks, bought them chocolate, raised their arousal to level 20+ only to be turned down cold for sex -- more than once, and never bringing their level of affection beyond "neutral." So... He resorted to more severe means to achieve satisfaction, which poisoned his relationship with the slave in question, of course.
A couple of points regarding this situation:
In desperate, apocalyptic setting presumably awash in sex slaves (to judge by the goods the vendors sell, if nothing else), why aren't their prostitutes -- willing or otherwise -- available? Only judging by the new v0.7 screen captures, it appears that this has been addressed at least in a singular instance... Still, this seems like it should be a much more substantial component of the game world.
More broadly, however, I would suggest you might want to re-think the mechanics of the MCs relationship with his slaves... He seems to treat them better than your typical Tinder hook-up and gets no satisfaction. I understand you're trying to emphasize the need to build a relationship between the MC and the slaves. However, this seems to go too far.
In a savage, lawless world if a property holder offers a female slave a choice between his bed (for otherwise non-abusive sex) and the whip -- the overwhelming majority will choose the bed. The slave might not especially enjoy it, and it won't necessarily lead to an affectionate relationship between them, but there is plenty worse the MC could do...
To address this issue, I would suggest you expand your relationship model between master and slave from a single axis defined along a continuum between love and hate to a multi-axis model, which would add at least one more variable, which I've tentatively labelled "numb":

The idea being that if the MC insists on sex with a slave who would otherwise be unwilling, she nevertheless goes along with it, but grows more and more emotionally withdrawn -- harder to teach and engage with emotionally, but docile. Given the MC's strong sex drive and seeming inability to persuade (!) his own slaves to have sex with him, it seems like some type of re-think is required here...
Thanks!
Interesting analysis.
I admit there are several balancing issues here that I might have to look at, and in the upcoming slave update (0.8-branch) there is a new variable that fits somewhat into this context – a value that stacks depending on how you've intimidated/threatened a servant in various means. This value will work to your advantage while persuading, even if a slave doesn't like what you're suggesting.
There are prostitutes in both taverns that'll give you sexual gratification (and more) for a pittance. Check out Furry's tavern and Watery Eyes (and soon Dockgrave tavern), and then go to "Private session".
I'd love to analyze your situation more closely, though. Were you trying to persuade the tribalistic/feministic slaves (Rebecca, Lovisa, Michelle, Juno), or the more docile ones (Amelia, Piper)? How much did you invest in Manipulate, Charm and Willpower? Were you trying to persuade a young slave with an older character?
Your suggestions are however interesting and, in a world like Raana, definitely realistic. I'll consider them more closely when I move on to the persuasion mechanics.
Good news!
I was finally able to persuade one of my "slaves" to have sex with me and her willpower crumpled from there, leaving her a willing meat puppet who fervently enjoys whatever my imagination (and the game mechanics) will allow... With that new perspective, I feel like I have some more refined suggestions for your continued development.
Having become better acquainted with your lore, I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding that I brought to the game -- which many others might, as well -- but I think it is easily remedied. From your own material advertising the game and even much of the content within the game itself, I was expecting a sort of hard-edged slavery as practiced by the ancient Romans: a master could kill a slave at a whim and no one would care more, from a legal or moral perspective, than if today you crumpled up a piece of paper and tossed it away.
Consequently, slaves were pretty highly motivated to see their master's wishes fulfilled -- and an attractive (and therefore expensive) female slave brought into the household of a wealthy man and dressed in silks would have no illusions about what was expected of her and would most likely comply as the least painful alternative available to her. Anyway, this was the impression I was left with, based on "buying" characters at a "slave" market.
However, what you have drawn here is much more like a feudal system: it's a contract that two parties willingly enter into and, much like a modern contract, each party has certain rights and obligations -- and sexual favors are not included. To be sure, there is a gross power imbalance between the two sides of this contract, but that doesn't mean that no contract exists or that society will turn a blind eye to people who violate it.
This, I think, brings us to the point of the game you are trying to create... These women, desperate for food and shelter, willingly commit themselves to service (not slavery) in exchange for a safe and predictable life. It's a bargain. Then, people like our enterprising MC in your game come along and try to subvert that bargain by clever psychological means -- transforming maids into lovers and lovers into docile puppets who see fulfilling their lord's wishes as representing the simultaneous fulfillment of their own.
Then our MC can sell that maid's contract -- at a substantial profit -- with the understanding that much (if not all) of her docility and experience will transfer to a new lord after a relatively short transition period (during which, no doubt, many tears will be shed).
And, the best part is, you don't need to make any deep changes to your game at all -- you just need to make more clear what the rules of this world are. Instead of "buying a slave," the MC should "buy out a contract." Instead of a desperate family selling themselves into slavery, they should sell themselves into "service," and so forth...
I think by providing some additional context -- which will, at the same time, serve to further flesh out the lore of your world -- you'll have a crackling game in place that won't confuse players who thing they are buying "slaves." The only minor adjustment I can see you would have to make is that the "slave" assessment center would need to be moved out of city hall -- because it is presumably at least technically illegal to turn your contracted maids into fuck puppets -- and into some underworld setting.
Indeed, such a neutral arbiter of "slave" value could serve as a focal point of conflict between the game's warring syndicates... I'm just sayin'...
Be well!
Yet another thorough and interesting review. You've understood most parts of MoR:s lore surrounding slaves. And yes – comparing this to the roman era would be wrong. Slavery in Ikaanos evolved through poverty and chaos - as a way to protect your family and save yourself from starvation in the aftermath of the severance. The concept evolved from a highly evolved society, and even if 300 years have passed, some "civilized understanding" of a contract between master-slave still exists in today's raanic society.
The next branch of updates (0.8.X) will focus on slaves, and I intend to flesh out the lore surrounding contracts and the social status of servants. This might change some parts of what you mentioned in your post – including the market for slaves. I must admit that the slave agent's location in Town hall is a sort of placeholder until I develop Crystal Hills and the seedy Westside slums.
With that said, it is still perfectly okay to use your slave for sexual purposes, in the eyes of the law, even if some of the girls you meet in Ikaanos might see their contract as a "maid's bond" – never thinking that their apparently kind master would use them sexually. See it a combo of cute ignorance and the civilized remnants from olden days.
I'll structure this more properly down the road - after getting MoR:s framework into a not-so-embarrasing and relatively bugfree state. But you've given me some interesting ideas!
Come to the discord https://discord.gg/BK9FqRrvJN. You have some great ideas!
Is there some reason that you don't have this project on Patreon? I can't help but think you'd make more money (certainly from me) if you were set up to take monthly contributions... I can't imagine you're making but a pittance by selling copies for "Name Your Own Price." The quality the work you've already done, plus your frequent updates and readiness to communicate with your audience would put you in very good stead with projects I'm following over there. I mean, you'd likely still make a pittance -- but at least you would make it every month. And, who knows, it might turn into more than a pittance...
What a nice post to read. 😊 There are plans in motion for setting up a Patreon account after Christmas. I just wanted to hold for a couple of months and see if MoR was something people found interesting enough to follow/try out. I had literally no coding or art skills a year ago so I wasn't sure about the general reception once I published it.
Now I actually believe this game could become something. What if I would be able to sink 3-4 hours each day into this project instead of the meager 1-3 hours I currently have at my disposal? Or even more than that? What if I could hire professional writers? A Patreon/Subscribestar account with enough monthly supporters can make all that come true.
MoR will always be free to play, nothing's going to change that. But patreons would receive special benefits (like high-res pics, voting rights) and game editions with DEV tools to build their own slaves. More on this later.
Alright, I'll spend my last fifteen minutes doing some renders now. Cheers!
There'll be a simple system ready for this in the 0.7.7 (january) update, as it's connected to the new inventory system that goes live on test servers today.
0.7.6 features a much more stream lined way of equipping slaves and applying states to them, but I need to test it first before moving forward.
I've made it so the dildo stool produces anal xp for inexperienced slaves, however, and it's added to the 0.7.6 update already. As a temporary fix to the Massive C**k trait and slaves with low anal proficiency.
I can understand not wanting to allow a player to save midway through a tense negotiation or fight but I find it very frustrating to try something, have it fail and get pulled into a combat I have very little hope of winning and have to either play it through to my inevitable loss or close the game and reload a save. I'd very much suggest having a way of surrendering a losing fight or allowing a player to load saves any time.
You will never "die" after losing a fight and there's never a requirement to reload to progress through a quest. On the contrary, many adventures have a different outcome depending on if you win or lose - you might end up as a prisoner, be thrown into a dumpster, or something else. Losing might sometimes even make a quest more interesting by giving it a twist that puts you down a different storyline. The Kymanto chapters are good examples of this.
That may be but that doesn't address my concerns with the game. My concern is that if you don't want to accept a loss the game makes it incredibly inconvenient to retry events through saves. You can have alternate quest paths for wins and losses and that's great but you should never make a system that forces a player to play the game in the way you think they should, give players agency to play the game how they like without inconveniencing them unneccessarily. In this case, don't make it inconvenient to retry events, don't make it inconvenient to explore an event you're not ready for and then be forced to play it out until you can reload.
If you're not saving through your browser's local storage, select "Save to disk" in the save menu and then "load from disk" after starting up a new version.
Don't forget to activate the patcher. You can find that button when entering your "Home", below "End day".
She'll be added as soon as I find a latino texture that I'm happy with. :)
Thank you!
Be assured, the latino girl will get a lot of attention soon. :)
I'm setting up a patreon account for the 0.7.7 update that's due out in a couple of weeks. Benefits will include special quests, high-res renders, and other goodies. In addition to allowing me to sink more time and money into this project. Would be awesome to have you on board!
Right now, you can sell them at the town hall or at Furry's Tavern (if you have enough Influence).
The 0.7.7 update next week will see a new "release slave system" that enables you to free up a slave's slot and then take her back if you stumble upon her while out on adventures, or through other events.
Glad I didnt add a new thread, when I can ask here :)
Im like Ookamimoo, im new the game and kinda not familar with slave training games. Any tips, hints and tutorial would be apricated. Right now its more like trial and error, and I dont really if im making it worse. I got my first slave by freeing her from gansters laundering money. She seems pretty compliant or wiling ?Saying she do anything after being saved, but the more I try to train her, her happiness looks to be going down. Im assuming the carrot and stick is the way to do this. Should I been looking at it in the long term, where shes going to get miserable with her spartan training. But in the long run she will gain happiness back when most the harder training is over ?. Seems her main skill is in academics too, so I guess I should be letting her study a little ?. But what benefit would academics bring me ? Will she do my finances and run my businesses ?. That I dont understand. yet. Theres alot of helpful lore information in the game, so thats good, but something to add to slaves would be nice. I also did the massive cock, and massive load. I mean why not? Every man wants that right.. But maybe that could go against me ?. At least I love the kinky of having a massive load. being able to jizz a fountain on your girl is a sight to behold. Might reduce to impressive pp, if massive is going too much against me. Also only allow two slaves huh ? Im the type who gets attached to my slaves, like harem building. So it will kinda suck for me, I wouldnt sell them unless I dislike/hate them. Im fine with putting them out on loan (loan them to people like renting, ). Maybe theres more ideas like that for the future ?. Im not really into slave flipping for profits.
Other than that, the games been really brutal stating out. Following the main quest, the first mission I got totally owned... 1 vs 3 ? and I even did a solder start (and having a rifle early game) and he just get pawned cause the other 3 are pro soldiers, I did many many reloads and tries, and I cant even hide. best result I got was -2 fail. And fighting them as a complete loss and perm injury., Surrender was the only option I could do, Which is not the type of soldier MC I wanted. Least breaking out was easier. I've now learned that I should be hiring mercs, So maybe if I hired 2 mercs with me. But the game didnt tell me Im suppose to hire mercs straight away, especially for the first mission. Only on the 3rd mission where im fighting 4 professionals ? yikes. Stories so brutal for a new comer. . Even using soldier MC doesnt turn the tide that much for combat in the first mission. now the 3rd, They wanted me to attack them within the week, but I hope I can delay the mission at least. Doesnt give me the time to even attempt to train a slave for combat,
Also didnt like the MCs portraits (young) with teh scar on his face. So I duped the middle age portrait, I hope in later versions we can at least choose from a bunch of them. Also like the idea of a female MC, which I saw in another thread, but I full understand thats not an important goal right now. I find female MCs nice in a world where you fighting as an underdog and noone expects anything from you, they just look down on you until you fuck them up. Fem dom all the way ^_~
I have a wiki on the way that'll explain a lot of different strategies concerning slave training. I know it's a steep hill for a newcomer right now, but that'll improve in the near future.
Also, there's a new update coming out tomorrow (hopefully, or Friday) that changes the core game considerably by balancing, fixing bugs, making mercs more controllable (upgrade armor, pick them up in taverns instead of randomized, etc) and a load of other stuff that are too numerous to go into right now.
Next update (0.7.8) will see the slave cap increased to 4 after the player buys an apartment house close to his home in Redhaven. I'll jump this up to 6 eventually when I'm satisfied with the system and optimized engine load.
Many great ideas! And don't apologize for posting. I love input. :)
I'll give you some short (and immodest, considering your detailed post) answers, because my "MoR designated" time is rather limited right now:
Combat:
I had plans on implementing melee fighters having to pass through enemies that are placed in the close combat slot before reaching the distant combateers (a form of "tanking"). But I almost like your idea better - which would give some love to the melee class as well. Which I agree is pretty underpowered right now.
A combat upgrade is still far away, but I'll patch/balance it and add new weapons that'll hopefully make melee more interesting.
Crystal hills will have stronger armor and a power katana blade that'll be the assault rifle of the melee class. Meleers will also get many special attacks that further enhance their combat ability after the MC discovers some personal trainers or apply to a boot camp.
Overlay quest UI :
Interesting. Will look into this.
Mentor tutorial:
Very interesting! A hirable merc, or maybe your brother's old gate keeper? Will look into this as well after getting other systems stable.
I'm currently working on a wiki that'll give newcomers many excellent hints - as a placeholder until a decent in-game tutorial.
Thanks!
So after trying to train the slave, like Michelle who seems to be my first. Is it normal that they start to hate and loose happiness as they keep rejecting training . First time I tried to do a sexual activity, she got full into the BJ and was gaining arousal, I was just playing with options, so I reloaded and tried doing it for real.. and well never happened again. Everytime her arousal goes into the negatives ? (maybe it bugged out?). I am assuming its normal that shes resisting and going negative, and that im looking at a long term pay off. Until their willpower is in the dumps, I just need to worry about them escaping (I see her escape chance is raising), I did a wall upgrade hoping that might counter it a bit.
But a question on escaping, if they escape, can I track them down and bring them back. If it comes to that and I dont just reload a game.
I assume theres a lovers path you could just let them be and give them everything they want. But thats not really slave training, Thats her training and using you. Can they be disciplined that ?
I havent figured out how to level discipline either. Doesnt seem to be spanking. My characters not really great at sexual skills or Spanking/bondage. So I guess that makes it harder ?
So what I take of it so far, Is its part of the process that you will get hated and disliked, until you can put their willpower in the dumps before making any good progress ? Once they've lost the willpower, is when real progress can be made ? Let me know if im doing it totally wrong..
Carrot and stick is what I went out with the idea to get started. but cant really reward them until they start deserving it. Already give them a decent bed and decent meals :p nothing less. Unless you can options to make them sleep on the floor as punishments. Trying to find something that works I guess.
I have played 150 days of in-game this game so far mostly grinding money and stats. So i decided to post some ideas, suggestion so dev can think what is worth to notice what is not and i dont know much what is possible with HTML.
Almost everything on your list are planned features.
There are two things on there that I haven't considered, however. I'll put it on my dev list: horses (for a planned fast travel feature, that might decrease time needed to travel) and other servants (janitor, gardener?).
Thanks for your suggestions!
