Hey there! I'm Martin, I make video and TTRPG games and I'm looking for a long-term artist collaborator.
A collage of some visual examples within the art style space I am interested in
Who am I?
A few quick words about me:
- I've been in the industry for 13 years at this point
- I am a game designer, ui/ux designer and developer
- My last big release was the roguelike card game Nowhere Prophet (2019 for desktop, 2020 for consoles)
- You can check out more of my work on the Sharkbomb Studios website.
Job Basics
I currently have two projects planned that would span quite a while, as video games do and I am looking for someone to help! What does that look like for me?
Long-term
- Someone who is interested in building a lasting working relationship beyond the two planned projects
- Which means repeated work in chunks across a longer time span (we are talking years here)
- This requires dependability and well-structured work processes
- If you just want to do some quick commission work here and there we're not going to be a good fit
Collaborator
- The projects should always have enough malleability for you to put your stamp on things.
- Your ideas and feedback are explicitly wanted and I'm looking for close communication.
- This obviously requires more time for communication than straight up "make these 20 assets" jobs
- If you are not enthusiastic about TTRPGs and/or video games it's not going to be a good fit either
The jobs
- Art Direction: Figuring out the art style and visual language
- Concept Art: Visual exploration of the game worlds
- Principal Art: Just straight up making assets for the project
Style basics
If that sounds interesting, here's my thoughts on the visual styles I like to work with and that you should be comfortable with and excited about.
At their heart, the styles I want to keep working with are abstract-ish, colorful and expressive.
Abstract-ish?
- It's not needed to show every detail.
- Honest textures and brushstrokes are welcome.
- This requires a good grasp of volumes so you can simplify while remaining believable
Colorful?
- Graphic visuals and bold colors but without dipping into cartoony.
- Not just gunmetal greys and dirt brown
- This requires a good grasp of colors and the skill to make even unusual combinations work
Expressive?
- Cool ideas and interesting shapes are much more important than detailed rendering.
- Communicating interesting ideas quickly is what it's about, not "realism"
- This requires a visually creative mind and the desire to step away from "generic"
If your portfolio does not contain works that fit what I'm looking for already we're probably not going to be a good fit.
Sounds interesting?
If all of that sounds cool and you'd be available and a good fit, then please, please, PLEASE post a portfolio and a way to reach you below. That way it is much easier for me to keep everything straight and reply to everyone as compared to a mess of private messages.
