Sputnik is a platformer where the movement is determined by how well you can place grenades to boost you through the level as quickly as possible. Each level has a core at the end that needs to be shot with your energy grenades, this will allow you to end the level when you reach it by pressing the action button.
There are 16 total levels that utilize a few core mechanics.
- grenades stick to any surface except glass
- grenades detonate after 1 second EXCEPT if they are shot at the pulsing and glowing cubes the detonation will be instant
- you have infinite ammo but their is a 1 second delay between each shot
- your jetpack will recharge when it either reaches 0 or you let go
- you can force kill the player to reset back to spawn
- all forms of respawning will reset the timer for each level
The inspiration for the core movement of this game stems from a sub community in halo 3 back in the early 2000's. This was the community of trick jumpers and the like, using halo 3s grenades in clever ways allowing you to fly across the map and into places that were never intended. That spirit was the baseline for the movement in this game.
This free demo is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of level concepts and mechanics, but now the game is at a point where I need community feedback and support before going forward with any future updates, so I would be immensely appreciative if anyone would give the game a shot and let me know what you think. If you do decide to play I hope you enjoy!
