"It came out of nowhere. The waters were calm, we were having a great time."

Hello, everyone!

It's been more than a year since I launched "The Thing in the Lake" for the Fishing Horror Jam. I had a great time making this game and receiving all the feedback and love!

This game and its characters are very precious to me and I keep thinking about them, especially now that summertime is here (you know, because of the lake?).

I'm currently attending university so unfortunately I do not have the time nor the energy to create bigger games as I'd like, but because I finally found some free time from my exams, I decided to polish my dear game (I thought, "if I can't really make another game, why not improve the ones I've already made?"). So here I am!

Goals: I want to correct some writing mistakes, maybe adjust the colour palette a bit but mainly, to make "The Thing in the Lake" deserving of the 2.0 title, I want to add some background music to the game! That way I can improve the dark atmosphere of the story.

I've already started changing a few things, and hopefully by the end of the week, "The Thing in the Lake" will be out there once more!

Tomorrow I'll share new images of what's to come in this new version of the game! See you soon!

The game seems very atmospheric and the visuals even though very simple, are very expressive. looking forward to see what you create

Thank you for commenting!

Hi, there!

Today's main focus was the art: I added some details where it felt too empty or just too plain, and even though it may not seem like a big change, it makes a great difference to me ^^

Here's an example:

The second pic is the one in the new version of the game!

I also decided to keep the colour palette simple, only using tones of green and black (#000000, #85c393, #759c7e, #6e7c65). I think there were too many different colours before, even random ones to be honest; now it feels cleaner.

Tomorrow I'll start looking for some background music to add to the game.

I'll also change one particular scene, to make it more ellegant as it's about the creature: in the first version you certaintly meet it but let's just say it's not that great of a meeting, so I decided to draw a lair and give the game some additional lore. Hopefully it will add some more spookiness to the atmosphere ^^

Well, that's all for today, see you tomorrow!

Hey, there!

Today, I went looking for a background music for the game. I confess that I was quite used to TTitL being a game with no sound; I think the silence added to the spooky atmosphere. But I guess it would be more attractive if there was indeed some sound to play with, that's why I decided to add it for the new version. I do hope it makes the game better and not worse xD

I also finished drawing the creature's lair (minor spoiler below) and I'm really happy with it ^^

The game is now in the hands of my beta player and soon enough, it will be out there for everyone else!

See you on Saturday!

Hey, everyone!

Good news: I decided to launch "The Thing in the Lake" 2.0 today and not Saturday, as I first intended.

Everything seems to be in order, so there is no reason to delay it any longer :D (I'm also really excited for it to be out there!).

You can check my twitter to see whenever the new version will be uploaded in the game's page.

Before I close this devlog page, I'd like to thank everyone who's been supporting my little game and following me in this journey of game making since day 1! I really appreciate it!

I wish you all a wonderful day!
