I've been trying out Bitsy (color+) but it doesn't include any programming at all. Does it count as a "proper" game engine, because i'm not sure what to call it.

what's your definition of "proper"?

Like, worthy enough to be a game on steam "proper".

Can it make and run a game? Yes.

So it's an engine, no need to twist yourself into knots over what's proper and what isn't.

Ah good to know, thanks!

well,  i haven't used it myself but i have had a look/

it looks like you can express a great story or ideas with it, but its not open ended. so its not a proper game engine for being able to do everything. but from what ive seen its a legitimate way to make something you can call your own game.

its what you put into it that counts :)

if you make make something with heart then its good enough. Put enough effort into it and nobody is going to dismiss it because of how its made.

Sorry for the wishy washy answer but im tired from fixing bugs and i just want the world to be ok, lol :)
