Story/setting:

The story of the game is that there has been an outbreak of an infection that turned people into flesh eating zombies. The main character is struggling to battle his way through the zombie hordes inside of a zombie infested city. He is tasked with getting to the other side of the city without becoming the newest addition to the zombie horde. What awaits him on the other side of the city is a safe haven that houses survivors and when he arrives he will then be able to rest, but until then the battle continues.

Mechanics:

The game will be a Top Down Shooter where the camera will be above the player and looking down.

The end goal of the game is to make it to the end of each level and make it to the last level to reach the safe area to win the game.

As the player runs through each level there will be groups of zombies that will chase the player.

The player will find weapons that they can use to fight the zombies, and there will be different types of weapons that will perform differently from each other.

There will be different types of zombies that the player will encounter that will all vary in damage, health, and speed.

Florida Poly Game Expo:

Be sure to check out the Florida Poly Game Expo that will be happening on the 20th of April! There will be multiple games that will be showcased during the Expo and all of these games have been made by students. My game will be ready for this Expo and I would like to have your vote.

Here is a short teaser video for Downtown Escape:

In the software engineering I found that adding in the different guns with the ammo does nothing for the game itself so I decided to just make the player use the assault rifle instead of the different guns. Also the rifle will have no ammo count. What I found interesting about the software engineering is that I had more requirements than I thought and found that most of them had a high priority.

Some more screenshots of the game:

Just a reminder to check out the Florida Poly Game Expo that will be happening on the 20th of April! Come and check out all of the games that me and my fellow students have put many hours into making. Please be sure to check out my game and possibly a vote :).

Level Design Draft:

Level design implementation:

Because of the mechanics of the game I decided to make a more linear and close quarters level design. I did want one part of any level to be open and allows the player to decide where to go, however, where ever the player goes they will have combat. I also wanted a arena type of part for the player to experience a rush of enemies.
