beginner in game development looking for insights!

hi, everyone. as the title states, I want to start making a game. I have the idea of making a tamagotchi style (virtual pet) game. I make 2D and pixel art, so the game will be a mix of those two.  for now I have installed Gdevelop, it doesn't need much knowledge in coding but for a beginner it's still pretty daunting.

I guess I want to know if you have any advice if there's a more suited program for making a virtual pet type game? or any advice if you yourself have made one. I'm also not rushing because I know game development isn't something I can learn in a short period, so a part of me is also thinking if maybe this is too much to handle for one person.

I guess I'm just putting this out there in case someone can help since there really isn't much tutorials for this specific type of game. thanks for taking the time to read this!

As far as I know, GDevelop is a pretty general-purpose game engine, so I’m sure this is relatively easy to do with it.
