Someone is selling our game illegally on itch.io, and nobody's doing anything!

Someone is selling our game on itch.io without our permission (and we aren't getting a dime!). Apparently they've downloaded it from GOG and then uploaded it here, and charging money for it. I've send numerous reports and support requests to itch.io over the week, but I have received no answer. What to do next?

I've already let an admin know, but couldn't answer your report to let you know. Hope this helps!

Sounds great!

For other readers: The illegally distributed copy has been removed by now.

For Habbala84: I’m sorry it took so long for this issue to be dealt with. I reported the game as suspicious yesterday - because the presentation was horrible and the username seemed off for such a (judging from the screenshots) polished game. Leading me to believe that the game was not distributed legally. And (presumably) so did other users. Itch.io does not have the same workforce that a distribution platform like Steam does. At the same time, there are a lot of uploads on a daily basis that nobody has time to check. Add to that such issues like Mac users buying a certain popular game for PC and complaining afterwards about it not running on Mac natively, tax season, as well as “other pressing issues”… Everyone’s stuff is important but that doesn’t make the support inbox sort itself to only show actually important stuff. The itch.io support is just “swamped” right now. Sorry about that. :/

But please note that the itch.io community is not oblivious to issues like copyright infringement and I doubt that many users would have bought the illegally uploaded version - although you will probably have the numbers in front of you by now. While I see your potential loss in sales at least the person uploading the copy illegally did not get to benefit from their crime (since itch holds the money for a certain time to counteract scenarios like this one). I wish you the best on your legal case.
