Oh My Godheads is the world's first capture-the-head action game for 1-4 players. Capture-the-head is like capture-the-flag, but the flag is an ancient head that's alive, angry, and after you!

Fight with your friends to capture these furious, living god heads and bring them back to your team's base... if you can!

Other features:

  • Full gamepad support and 2 players via 1 keyboard
  • Deathmatch, king of the hill, and other game modes coming soon
  • The ONLY game that lets you play as an aristocratic penguin!
  • MUCH MORE with your feedback & support!

INSPIRATION & PROJECT GOALS

Born from a love of old school multiplayer games like Micro Machines, Worms, Power Stone, Sensible Soccer, or Street Fighter. But also from some recent indie games like Samurai Gunn, Nidhogg or Towerfall.

We wanted to recreate the fun, fast-paced multiplayer experience of those couch multiplayer games while adding full 3D environments for more tactics, more depth, and more replayability.

Our final goal is to make a fun, intense, simple but deep local multiplayer game where both novice and expert players start enjoying from the very first second they grab the controller.

GAMEPLAY

Game Objectives

The goal of the game is simple: to take the head to your base. The first team to reach the necessary number of points will gain the favour of the gods and win the match.

Godheads

What makes Oh My Godheads a different capture-the-flag game is that you have to bring the head back to your team's base while dealing with the godhead powers.

For example, the Agyo godhead gets angry and explodes if you carry him for too long. So you have to throw him away or pass him to a teammate. Or Bastet, who turns evil and reverses your controls.

This way each head changes gameplay and makes each match a slightly different game.

Greek, Aztec, African, Egyptian, Japanese, all sorts of ancient gods and myths are potential heads for the game!

Game Flow & Controls

Oh My Godheads is a fast-paced action game. To achieve the goal of immediate fun, the players die and respawn very quickly, joining action immediately.

Aside from scoring goals, the players have to fight the rival team. To do that they can perform different sword attacks and movements, and even throw explosive pies! This adds depth as players can make combos, deflect projectiles, or dodge rivals.

CURRENT STATUS

We now have a robust prototype that contains::

  • all the core mechanics
  • AI
  • 2 levels
  • 3 heads
  • 6 playable characters

In January we obtained Greenlight in Steam.

So now are are focused in creating new contents (heads, levels, characters, game modes, etc.) for the final release of the game.

Also we keep working on polishing the core mechanics and everything else in general.
For example we recently added soft targeting to attacks to make combat a bit more balanced.

UPDATE Mar-9

This last month we have been mainly working on cleaning code and preparing the solution for a more scalable game.

Aside from that we have:

  • Fixed a good number of bugs.
  • Players are now spawned a bit on the air.
  • Added a player spawn godray effect that we still need to polish.
  • Updated input layouts for keyboard.
  • Improved the slide attack hit detection and added a small cooldown time after using it.
  • Voices pitch is altered to give more richness.
  • Footstep sounds have been greatly improved (more variation, change with speed and volume adjusted)
  • AI now plays on the player select screen.
  • Invincibility is now indicated by coloring the characters (before transparent).

After so many structural changes we are going to spend a good amount of time testing before publishing the next demo. We are looking into releasing the next build at end of March. Follow us on Twitter to know when we do!
