A beautiful experience of uneasy horror. Everyday liminal spaces and echoes of people you will never know the name of, but will always remember the face of. The unease of hearing a tape playing backwards, a broken untuned piano, the reflection of your own face in a window during the night. Belle creates the most physically effective written atmospheres in the most amazingly short amount of words, no short story can capture the sense of reality and human experience like she does. The queer representation is true and feels organic and constantly shifting. It's genuinely incredible the way she can boil down the tiny machinations of the human experience into a sentence. The horror is something very niche and delicate too; she doesn't rely on gore or traumatic twists, she uses the worldbuilding and personal experience to tailor the fear to your own idea of horror. Everyone will have a different and individual experience of this collection of stories and will be left dreaming of the cinematic experiences she gave to you for such a small price. Read at your own risk; you will become obsessed and itch for more.
