When you backtrack through a square you've already been through, there's no need to roll on the Exits or Encounters tables - only roll d4 to see if a wandering monster attacks. But as always, if you're ever unsure about a rule interaction, just go with whatever is coolest in your story!

Yes, the goblin curse is a thing in the Mörk Borg TTRPG (which The Black City is based on). It basically means that anybody who is hurt by a goblin is doomed to turn into one in a matter of days. There is obviously no cure.
