Stick deadzone has been fixed for final release, as we received some complaints about it before.
The other things you comment are this way for a reason, and we've tested the game with a reasonable number of players. As I suppose you've played the demo, you still haven't used items (as they are not available).
Items change significantly how you play, and they are introduced after the first boss. Also, there are different characters which have different timings for entering and exiting Hyperactive Mode among other things.
About "wasting your time" to break after HM, that's quite the point. Once you get the hang of it, most levels can be cleared without stopping or stopping very few times. Minimizing these stops is one of the ways to get better times and this can only be done optimizing what you do while in HM.
