Dolorosamente cercano

So as the title suggests i am a programmer and i struggle a lot when it comes to art. I have little to no experience making games and i am still studying and i have responsabilities so i don't have much time for game making. My issue is that i get frustrated because my art is really bad and that discourages me from making games because if i am a noob at game programming my background allows me to learn fast but i'm a bit clueless when it comes to art so i thought i would seek advice here.

This is a screenshot of my only game. At first it looks fine ( and i feel fairly proud because i had no experience at pixel art ) but if you look closely there are a lot of bad things. The perspective on the trees is bad. The shadow is too round and does not correspond to the tree perspective, the borders are supposed to look like tall bushy trees but they look like badly drawn bushes and last but not least... the player.

if it looks familiar it is because it is just a watered down version of titan soul's main character. I tried making my own but this was as far as i could get because what frustrates me the most by far is animating. I can't seem to get the hang of it.

What i am trying to acomplish with this post (if anyone reads it) is for someone to offer some guidelines on how i could gradually improve with pixel art and/or how could i outline my projects so that the lack of expertise at art does not restrain me or discourage me.

Thanks to anyone who reads (if someone does) and sorry if i made any mistake at spelling, not my native language.

No way yet, i'm sorry. I wanted to finish the game so badly so i didn't take time to polish and make menus etc. When i have time i'll look into it but that might be in some months. I hope it doesn't ruin the experience and you were able to enjoy it to some extent

I finally managed to release the linux build. It wasjust a minor issue but i didn't have time to dig into it before. If you are still interested it now works. Keep in mind that it is my first try at game dev so it is not very good.

I don't know i feel pretty insecure because i feel the art is really disconnected. Overall it looks nice but the perspectives are messed up and i used a ton of references to make everything so you can see very different art styles around all the game. Anyway i think for my first try i can be proud

I'd love to as i love linux, but i have tried several times and the build i get did not work on my manjaro gnome or my ubuntu. It just displayed a white scree. Either way i have added the build just in case it works or someone can advice me on how to properly make the game for linux.

Thanks for your comment and your interest

Hi, I'm a computer science student who recently tried to follow one of his long time dreams and made a game.

Yearning (currently working on new title) is a little game that can be finished in around 10 minutes. It follows a young protagonist who ends up in a mysterious island seeking loneliness and beautiful and mystical landscapes. It is pixel art and was done using Unity engine.

I know it is really edgy but sometimes I can't stop thinking about how I would like to spend a day completely alone with no worries or thought whatsoever. I also happen to love nature and getting lost in it. With this two thought in mind I began development of my game trying to keep it simple so I could make a finished product despite my inexperience. Music is also something that obsesses me. I have been an accordionist for my whole life and that has also great influence on the game.

It is not only the first game I have ever made but also the only time I have posted something in a public way, so please abstain from making any harsh criticism. I seek constructive critics, but I am really embarrassed about my work and know is rough around the edges.
