Actually yes. It’s nearly ready! I didn’t know ANYONE liked these since they receive a lot less attention than the Cyberpunk theme. Fantasy stuff is also kinda saturated on itch but I like to think I have my own take!

Do you wanna know some of the stuff that’s in various stages of development for this theme?

Oh yeah I think your fantasy stuffs great, while you aren’t wrong about the saturated state of fantasy assets finding quality might actually be a bigger challenge than on the sci-fi side of things. Definitely agree you brought a fresh take with the Nine Realms and honestly I bet the series would be getting all sorts of attention if it was indexing a bit better - I’ve been combing the market for about two months and I only very recently stumbled across it as it doesn’t pop under any of the terms I would think to use when blindly searching.

That said, yeah for sure - that would be awesome, I’d love to hear what’s going on with the development!

Not sure what I could do to improve the indexing. I’m pretty turned off/bored/confused by the metrics and hustle aspects of this stuff. I sometimes think I’d be more diligent and take my store and assets a bit more seriously (like… having a schedule for it) if I understood it all better but tbh I don’t think I’m wired the right way for that!

As for upcoming things, this will give you a taste:

  • I have an almost-ready free update to the Midgard Tileset that will include winterized variants of stuff like trees and ground tiles. It will also include interiors. It was a mistake not to include them in the first place (and may be something that hurts the assets, ppl might pass on stuff that’s too “incomplete” and I get that).

  • Tileset for the Nidavellir Dwarves, which you’ve seen a mockup of. The main reason that it’s just a mockup right now is that I haven’t done interiors yet. I don’t want to launch w/o that so I’m waiting. I know ppl regularly release packs that aren’t finished and just update them but I’m not super comfortable with that and I don’t like making people wait even though that’s what ends up happening anyway haha.

  • Character packs for Trolls, Light Elves, and Dark Elves are all underway and various stages. I’ll release these ahead of tiles in the same way I have so far with NR and my cyberpunk assets. This is just because I usually gravitate toward character design the most.

  • A “vikingr” pack incl. modular ship tiles and props. This is a toughie for me as an artist due to perspective challenges, but I chip away at it every so often. It’s funny cuz I have the exact same issue doing vehicles for the cyberpunk theme. Just not very confident/good at it.

  • In the further future, I would like to have character packs for the following: Aesir (Asgard), Vanir (Vanaheim), Frost Giants (Jotunheim), Fire Giants (Muspelheim), and undead/draugr (Helheim). Each of these would also have a corresponding tileset.

  • I want to do item packs, monster packs (Norse myth has a lot of interesting critters), etc to round out what a person will need for a JRPG. These would be things that are a lot further away just because I’m less experienced with that stuff. Even the cyberpunk theme still lacks many of these elements. I’ve also been asked a couple times to do more “action rpg” style animation variants for characters and may one day want to try that too. More animations in general, I guess. :P

Anyways, that’s kind of a roadmap?

Haha thats a great road map! Thanks for taking the time to share it with us - I hear you I feel the same with the metrics and marketing etc, only thing I’d offer on that is get all the generic ones cause thats what will lead people who are just searching for whats available to it (ie. top down, topdown, top-down, rpg, tileset, tiles, asset pack, pixel art, terrain, 4 directional, four direction, 8 directional, 8 direction, orthogonal, environment, character, fantasy, adventure)

Anyways this is awesome I’m super excited about what you have in the works, I’ve been sitting on a game I want to do as a pet project based all on norse mythology and relevant settings. I feel obligated to share the name cause it’s so relevant haha “Runeforged, Bathed in Aesir Blood” so I can’t tell you how excited I am to see the final products! and those character packs can find a place in all my worlds. I have a feeling a lot of people will be very stoked on all of those packs :)

Thanks for the tips. You’re right that there is kind of a classic set of key words, hashtags and corresponding assets that people need for full vertical on their projects. It is, of course, notoriously hard to produce good quality art for an entire game in a timely manner unless you’re 100% dedicated to it.

But comments like yours tell me there is an appetite for this stuff and I love making it and can certainly make it more of a priority.

No doubt about art for an entire game, I’m honestly learning myself cause I’d like to do my own assets but even now I wouldn’t expect to pull together all the assets for a single game from one source. I really like your work though and to incorporate pieces and just take inspiration from what you and others do I think is huge - I’m actually about to get your cyber punk sets after looking at them again too, I’ve oddly always not been interested in the theme much they’ll be the first of their kind in my collection - I don’t have any real plans or ideas for em yet but I’m excited to start playing with em

I appreciate your interest in that theme too! Hopefully you do find a use for them if you purchase!

And yeah, learning pixel art for game dev. That is/was me as well. I do an entirely different style for my own game projects, too.
