The follow mechanic is for following devs and not for following users. This is not Twitter. Though it feels like there are more devs than players in some portions of itch.
Also, I am not your friend. You project too much emotion into the internet. I am not "your" critic. I am just a loudmouth. Other people see what you do too, but they just do not bother calling you out on it.
