I think he's referring to the tutorial door you couldn't open. IIRC that door does have its own drive slot on the wall right next to it. You have to insert a green-lit drive to get it open.
As for the trash, that's supposed to be a bathroom bucket, but hey, it makes for a nice waste paper basket! There are 3 actual green trash bins outside the garage however, which I think is perfect for sorting out your types of trash: paper, plastic (bottles), and food waste (takeout boxes).
If it helps, you could write down what you need onto your own txt file, then copy-paste onto the game's paper notes.
