"...I will set up a press conference."

His voice was hollow

Kai couldn't answer, he just placed himself so his back was touching the wall and buried his face into his knees, his sobs just getting louder as the news broke him

"T-The country needs to know. We will mourn together-"

His voice broke before he took a deep breath

"...You will be a good emperor. L-Like he was..."

"Don't play t-that shit with me! My father j-just fucking died and YOU try saying that to me, J-Just leave!"

He flinched back

"P-Prince Kai I-"

The screen behind them pinged, followed by a sweetly feminine voice: "Incoming communication for Crown Prince Kaito of the Eastern Commonwealth from Queen Levana of Luna"

"Awe c-come on! I don't have t-time for that this shit!...j-just answer the call..."

Torin murmured

"How could she know...so soon..."

He raised his voice

"Screen, accept comm."

The screen brightened, revealing the Lunar Queen. Her head and shoulders were draped in an ornate cream colored veil, like a perpetual bride. The explanation told by the Lunars was that their Queen's beauty was not a gift to be shared with undeserving Earthens, but Kai had heard that in reality the queen's glamour-her ability to make people see her as divinely beautiful by manipulating their brainwaves-could not transfer over screens, therefore she never allowed herself to be seen over them.

"W-What do you want...I don't have t-time to talk to you, my father just...you probably already know..."

Torin looked at him, sympathetic but stern. Diplomacy. He always needed to use diplomacy.

"Of course I do, my dear Prince Regent. May I be the first to offer my condolences, on the loss of your father, the good Emperor Rikan. May he forever rest in peace."

"...W-Why did he have to leave m-me so soon..?"
