WOOOOO! My text-adventure game, Saturday Grocery Store Adventure, is now public! I've started pretty late in the Jam due to believing that my computer (Surface RT) couldn't handle any game engines. I stumbled upon Twine earlier this week and now here we are!

The story was a lot of fun to write. I had come up with the idea of doing chores during the summer and ran with that idea for SGSA after fretting over making something relatable© . Sometimes it's easier to just do it – fretting over all the little details in the planning stage wasted a lot of time for me because I couldn't visualize how to continue the story. Once I got to writing though, it all came a little too easily to me. I had to cut a lot of branches off and find ways to connect dead ends in order to meet the deadline!

(If you find any inconsistencies in the writing please let me know! I appreciate any and all comments too!)

Art and music became an issue today because 1) I have 91 separate passages to illustrate that were starting to look not up to my standards on paper (I was going to traditionally illustrate then phone scan them to transfer them to my computer) 2) Figuring out how to embed images and music (I was using Twine's Sugarscape) through the browser was becoming increasingly difficult to do. Instead of stressing myself out even further, I decided to release the game in a beta format; all the storylines are complete, which is the bare minimum to me, and I will update the game with art at a later date. Maybe music as well.

To summarize my whole experience for myfirstgamejam, I'd have to say it was a lot of fun. I'm sure there are many out there just like me who have so many concepts on paper but never push to actually make them a reality. Doing this jam confirmed that I really do want to make games for a living. I never really focused on the narrative for my ideas so this gave me a lot of great practice with the limitations I have. I haven't had much sleep this week either and I can't wait to get a GOOD night's rest from now on lol

I enjoyed reading all the devlogs posted as well.Seeing everyone's progress made me want to get up and work on my game some more. I can't wait to try out as many browser based games as I can (Surface RT here) and then download some when I do get the chance to upgrade my computer.

Saturday Grocery Store Adventure will ultimately have 6 different ending title cards, but already has six different ways that the story can end. I recommend replaying it as many times as you can to find out what happened during this weird Saturday grocery store trip!
