Meaning, I am not sure what to do. I know there are tips in the game, but I don't see an option for a tutorial.

Hi Whammo,

Usually at the beginning, the game is all about exploring nearby solar systems for a suitable colony location where you can expand to using your colony fleet.

You can explore systems by sending any one of your fleet but it is highly recommended to use a combat fleet so if they get ambushed by pirates they can defend them self.

In addition you can research new technologies from the colonial or economics research trees that aids your new colonies in growing to their full potential.

When it comes to mining with your mining fleet you can keep them in your starting system it is  full of minerals at the beginning of the game so you do not need to worry about it for awhile.

You can find more info about these actions outlined in the tip menu that can help you figure out how to do things, however in regards to what to do is up to you and your play style.

I am sorry at this stage of the game you will not find any tutorial in the game, my focus was on providing information on how things work not so much how to play it, but i will look into providing some outline on how to start the game in a future update.

If you stuck at something please let me know and i will try to help you out!

Thank you for responding and Happy Holidays. I am stuck on how to make the mining fleet move within the system to mine. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi,

At this stage of the game you only need to send a mining fleet to a system using the star chart, than when it arrives to the system it automatically starts depleting the systems resources at a rate dependent on how big is your fleet and what retrofits you installed on the mothership.

You can take a look at from the mining report menu when selecting a mining fleet which details the fleets mining capacity as in the maximum number of materials it can extract each turn, as well as a break down of the kind of materials it had extracted up too the last 10 turn.

Mining using a fleet is an automated random process meaning each turn the yield of any kind of material is randomly calculated adding up to the maximum mining capacity, you may notice that when a system starts to be depleted less and less of the rare materials are extracted per turn, hence you have to make a decision whether to stay or send it to another less depleted system.

The other method of mining is related to your colonies, there is a tab called resources which show what kind of materials are found on a planet and if you have a colony there then you can mine at a rate indicated in units per certain amount of industrial development, it is again an automatic hand off process you only need to increase the colony's industry to increase the amount of resource yield per turn.

In the next update there is coming a global exchange menu, where you can buy or sell off you resources  at a price determined by demand.

Aslo, in the future mining stations, defence satellites are coming and then you will also be able to place them and view them from the inspect solar system view, which feature is right now lacking, you will also be able to see your fleets and shipyard that are in orbit of the inspected system.

p.s.: Take a look at the Wiki under the Construction Materials and Planetary Resources topics for more information.

Please do not hesitate to ask any question or provide feedback on any of the game features!

Hi again,

There's gotta be an easier way to select your ships for movement. You can't seem to select your ships from the bottom fleet destination icon on the bottom of the screen! Also, as someone mentioned here, you really need to add the "WASD" keys to the galaxy map. It's very hard to move around when the view is locked on the selected system!

Thank you.

Hi Whammo,

Indeed you cannot select fleets from the destination setter, however you can focus on any fleet from the Empire Assets Panel on the left just select the fleet category tab and then click the location icon on any fleet to be selected, the icon is on the bottom right corner.

When you start the game there is an introduction on how to navigate the star chart as well as the empire asset tab, you can also find it in the wiki under Star Chart Navigation/Empire Asset Tabs.

The orbiting camera of the star chart allows you to zoom in and out on the selected object using the scroll wheel but while holding down the middle mouse button you can rotate it in 360 degree as you dragging your cursor around.

You can change your location either by left click selecting an object or using the asset tab location icon or when applicable clicking  an event popup's location icon (right bottom corner).  Sometimes you might find it easier to hop across the map from one system to the other or just hold down the middle mouse button to rotate your view till you see your desired location.

I know it takes a bit of a time to get use to it however  this orbiting camera is the only way to navigate a 3D star chart quickly and efficiently.
Unfortunately a WASD input would do very little and be quite clumsy due to the 3 axis movement , an example of it you can find when navigating in a solar system , there you still using the middle mouse button  to look around and WASD to move along the system plane which works in that 2.5D set up but would be a nightmare in 3D.

p.s.; There is also a navigation way point creator that allows you to set up locations yourself using typed in coordinates if you want to be able to go to a specified location with a fleet or by the camera.
