Considering that rotation works on the login screen, it's possible something has gone bad in your user profile.
If you create a new username, then login as that new user, does resize and rotate work okay as the new user?

Thanks for the suggestion but nope, that did nothing, black screen when rotating as soon as I logged in.
I also forgot to mention that the same thing happens if the laptop goes into sleep mode, when trying to start it up again the screen lights up but remains black.
Same thing also happens when pressing the "lock" button from the menu you turn off the computer.
I don't know what to do, I've searched around and tried a bunch of different things but nothing seems to work.
