I feel like I don't have the words to properly convey how much this game resonated with me. This will stay with me for a very, very long time. I'll probably return with a longer comment after I gather myself more, in the meantime, this is the first game in the jam that inspired me to do fanart!
wow! that's awesome didn't expect to see fanart for the game, thank you. it means a lot that you liked it so much!
Your art style is so cute!!!! Thank you so much for the fanart and the incredibly kind comment! There are so many games in this jam this time around, so this is a huge compliment for me. I’m planning to have Page and her new Orb friend appear in our upcoming game, and I also plan to update this game more after the jam.
i love seeing fanart for a game jam game character and your style is lovely :)
Great atmosphere, similar to Yume Niiki. But I really liked how you incorporated the style: the nice controls, the unusual camera angles, and the room design. Great job!
Really love the atmosphere in this game! The abstract representation of dad's thought and feelings, the light-hearted music and artstyle. Feels like a cozy story driven game. Also, the protag kind of remind me of Undertale's protag for some reason.
Thank you so much! I think I might have made it a bit cozy for Scream Jam, but I didn’t want to change the vibe of what I came up with, nor do I want to horrify Page given the situation she’s already in lol
Your comments are so nice! I’m glad you enjoyed the story and vibe. I wasn’t sure how many people would like the story since I made it pretty abstract, but I’m so glad everyone seems to be enjoying it. When the story is just in a Google Doc, it’s so hard to predict how people will react.
Anything that has heavy dithering in the art-style is in my good graces, but adding the Yume Nikki flavor makes this a must-try. The room designs are fun, and it was a lot of fun to go room to room, see whats what. Good work.
Thank you so much! Hearing that from someone who is also a fan of RPG Maker makes me really happy. We worked really hard with limited time to make the rooms fun to explore. I’ll also check out your game soon! It looks awesome.
Honestly really liked this game with its feeling of exploring the unknown dream world and characters. The sea of consciousness is such a cool concept for any game and you've captured it so well! Yuminiki and old school jrpg vibes are strong here and at no point did I get stuck or encounter any bugs.
I can totally see this as a full game.
The sound is wonderfully designed and the pacing of the story is just right. Seeing that you had to make everything by hand its really impressive for a small team as we had a large art team for our game and we still struggled! Bravo and hope you guys get more recognition for this game!!
One thing is I kind of wish the doors in the hallway are different somehow to signify the different rooms or show some sort of indication that I've already been inside them. I had to do trial and error to find the new rooms in that one. Thank you for making the game!!
thank you so much for the review! glad you enjoyed the game, We totally agree with the doors, its been one of the more common critiques. barring the player from going back in was a last minute decision due to a game breaking bug so it wasn't implemented super well, something we'll update after the jam for sure.
Genuinely one of the best games I’ve played so far! I think it wears its inspirations on its sleeve and that works fantastically! I can definitely see the inspiration from old school JRPGs and I like the subtle horror of reality.
It’s quite a sad reality where many have to bury their feelings into themselves rather than share their sorrows. I think you portrayed that very well through abstract thought.
Also loved the aesthetic, the old school camera movements, the poly-graphics etc. Music was soothing, SFX was cute. Loved it! I would like to see a whole series on the orb and Page! <3
Ahhhh, your comments are way too nice! You’re gonna make me cry!
Thank you so much. I'm so happy that people really resonated with the story and journey of Page. I think you’ll be happy with what we’ll do with Page and her little… or large?… orb friend in the future (cough cough will appear in ./DreamON), and we’ll also be updating the game a bit too!
P.S. your game is on my list! I'll be trying it soon. The backlog grind is REAL!
I enjoyed it. It got the yume nikki feels right with the art and music.
It was different but nice actually having text and a more clear story, makes an interesting change to the concpet.
I did run into a bug where I couldn't talk to the monster man in.. Shape world I guess you'd call it and had to exit and reenter, but it worked again after so it's all fine.
And the fact the settings was only mouse sensitivity was a bit lackluster.
But those little things don't ruin the whole, good game.
Sorry about that glitch! We are aware of it and will look into it while adding more content post-jam as well. Same goes for the mouse sensitivity options!
Thank you so much! I really loved the surrealness of Yume Nikki, but I always wanted more story in it, so you read it perfectly.
This game seemed quite interesting, in a good. Firstly I would like to point out the sweet and fitting assets used in the game, which really set up the entire mood of the game. The sound design and sfx were another plus point that I really enjoyed, they felt quite unique.
Now with that, the story did feel a bit confusing, especially in the later parts. The ending in specific felt quite rushed and definitely could use some much needed improvement. The pacing could also use some work, especially with the narrative.
There was also a glitch in the hallway area where the screen just froze, but that was fixed by pausing and resuming the game. The controller sensitivity felt wonky at times, but other than that, controls felt nice and responsive.
Overall, for what it is, it's a good jam game. Definitely could use some heavy work, but that's a given with almost everything. It's a great entry point, great job guys!
Thank you!
We spent 80 percent of our time putting the game together, which involved modeling the objects needed for the game, creating all the art you see, and then placing everything into Unity. All of that basically put us on a two-all-nighter crunch towards the end of the due date to just make the game work. Pretty early in the project, since our background is in 3D modeling, we decided that we would make every asset in the game by hand. That might have been a bit of a mistake, considering there are some chair models for example we could have easily used, but we wanted to make it ourselves. We did not have much time left to refine the game, aside from just getting it to work, so I am very happy that you still ended up liking it. We are looking to make some improvements in the update for sure.
Post QA
Invis wall is my nightmare, but game is well thought out enough to prevent too much bug in game instead of main menu and such. Everything is good, nice model, nice game direction, nice camera snap on specific labels/rooms. Reminds me of a very old resident evil/? type game where the camera often follows or a fix to a certain spot which is a nice touch.
It didn’t scare me but it made me feel things that I can relate
Overall nice comfort/reality breaking or psychological comfort game-
GG teams~
Thanks QA.
Really cool game, Love the character design and I can see the inspiration form top down rpgs here, The game also kinda reminded me of LSD Dream emulator! Had fun exploring this one!
Thank you! We really wanted to create a feeling of an almost hazy dream you can’t quite remember it fully, so the LSD Dream Emulator comparison is perfect.
this was a cute game! the camera work was very good, i liked the variety of angles as you enter each room. it wasn't a big problem but i wish the doors to rooms you already explored were distinguished somehow. liked the sound design too!
i_love_you!!! Thank you for reviewing our work! My friend (the other dev) has already played your game and really liked it. I’ll be getting to it myself soon, hopefully!
We have received a few complaints about the doors. When we go back to update this, we’ll look into it. I haven’t discussed it with my friend yet, but I think having a custom symbol for each door would be useful.
looking forward to whatever improvements you make!!
thanks for the review! I def will take that into account when we update the game, the doors thing seemed to be confusing to many. also ignore me if im hallucinating but is that osage in your profile pic? i love inabakumori!
haha no it's a friend's drawing (the person who did our character art!) but i was actually listening to inabakumori a lot during the game jam :))
I would play a full release of this. great job. it looks awesome!
We'll be updating it after the Game Jam for sure. Thank you for the nice comments; you're awesome!
This is a really well made game! I love the graphics, the ideas, and most especially the story! I think it's amazing that you and your team made this within 7 days!
My only issue that whenever I'm not in the tiny segments (the dream areas where you collect boxes), it becomes really slow (bad fps). Nonetheless, great game that explores how recklessly chasing something can affect you and your loved ones.!
Yeah, we’ve received a lot of feedback about the optimization. We’re planning to revisit the game to make updates, so we’ll definitely look into all of that. As you can see, we mostly focused on the visual aspects, and our back-end code and optimization are still pretty janky since our background is purely in 3D modeling with Blender. I'm so glad you love the visuals and story!
This game sure is something unique!
I can clearly see some Yume Nikki and LSD Simulator inspiration in it — I love how it brings that classic RPG Maker vibe while playing.
I just hope that if this ever becomes a full game in the future, it gets a cooler gameplay loop, because right now it’s more like a mini walking simulator with an intriguing story.
This game has a really cool concept and a solid execution, i hope it gets a trillion likes, lmao!
Yep! We mostly decided to go easy on the gameplay since this is one of our first times using a game engine. In fact, on my side, it’s my first time ever working in Unity, so we knew we couldn’t really code much or anything like that especially because of the one week limit. Because of that, we focused more on 3D modeling, which is my background. I’m really glad you enjoyed the aesthetics!
We’re really considering coming back to update this game further, but our main game set in the same universe will definitely have more extensive gameplay.
The music in this is amazing! And the art style is so cute.
Thank you! Some of those are royalty-free tracks I found online, one is a Debussy piece, and the two used in the White Room and the Archive are by my friend Catastrophi.
Atmospheric music with beautiful melodies and a melancholic mood. The graphics are beautiful, I especially love the blur filter, it creates a magical feeling.
Thank you so much for the nice comments!
The whole PSX vibe mixed with the way the movement was used was top notch. It gave me a good classic reto feel, and the camera effect give it a nice horror vibe. Unfortunately, I felt like there was not much horror other than the one blue room, which did send a nice chill down my spine. The music and sound effects were quite nice and pleasant to listen to, even the blue room.
Thank you again for checking it out! Enjoy your stream!
Cute art, nice little story going on and a lot of balls involved.
Thaaaank you.
been meaning to check your game out, the style looks great thanks for the review!
Such a beautiful game, loved the story! I can't get over the art direction for this game.
That said my computer was about to take off like a jet engine whenever I was in the main house/corridor but that is my only complaint for such a lovely game!
Ohhh, it’s interesting that the house ran the worst! Thank you for the nice comments though, haha. Which area was your favorite?
Best area was definitely the one with the shapes, where the blue guy was being treated harshly by the others. I'm slow so that's when it clicked to me what the game was about!
Great art style! I loved the game, it was very original and interesting 😎 great submission good luck in the voting
Good luck to you too, and thank you again!
