Came back to check your rankings, you did really well, so I expect to see a full game in the future 😉

Haha, thank you! You did amazing, well done!

I do plan to do more with this game.

I am actually blown away by how good this was, please make a full release!!!

Developer

Thank you so much and keep an eye on it, there's more to come :)

Submitted(+1)

Unironically. Not joking. Would 100% buy a full release version SO fast

Developer

Thank you so much! Stick around, I do plan to turn this into a more complete game

Interesting game with a nice use of character AI — congrats on the idea!

If you have a moment, I’d love if you could check out mine too! Play it here: https://kaijota.itch.io/graverun

Thank you! The AI behaviour was a core focus. I wish I had more time to do more with it

Very fun game with lots of creatures to check out. Nice music and sounds. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you, glad you liked it!

I like each of the heros having names, gives them personality, simple, but nice looking cohesive graphics, the AI behaviour is interesting, although I had a problem where 2 heroes died and then the rest killed all the enemies and I had to use the enter cheat to kill them and progress the game, but behaviour from systems like this with randomness are hard to tune, reminded me a bit of rimworld.

Developer(+1)

Enemies respawn when you and all heroes leave the area. The Enter cheat is meant to be used if heroes get stuck. It only ever happened in the tavern during my playtests .

I'm glad you liked the hero names, it was a last-minute addition and it's nice to see you called it out :)

What an awesome game! I think this is by far the smartest use of the theme! The world really feels alive and dynamic while also being full of charm, the chickens are such a funny idea of getting tutorial info and I love them. I bet this would be great for a full release, it would be nice to have an easier progression curve with a few more cheap early game sabotages. Just such an awesome idea and really great execution. Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the feedback, I'm glad you liked it.

The game is actually designed to be easier at first. Heroes start with a relatively low health pool, which increases the more you bury. Traps and sabotages are not necessary initially. The problem, if you can call it that, stems from the AI randomness. What I like to call "emergent gameplay".

Sometimes all heroes will go fight at the same time in the same area, so even if they have low health, they will mop the floor with the goblins. Other times, they will all die, and you have to find their bodies and bury them. I was implementing day/night cycle today and as I was testing stuff, two heroes got beat up, ran away and managed to kite a handful of goblins all the way to the village, where they whacked our a few villagers before a guard managed to kill them.

I really enjoyed this game.

The visual and sound aesthetics were really simple, but still works really well.

The most interesting thing about the game is of course the systems, which as a fellow programmer I find to be very intriguing. The player actions are definitely quite simple, just walk around and buy stuffs. But the way the NPCs interact with stuffs and each others feel quite organic and believable.

i admit it took me some time for it to click though, because of the lack of tutorials. I suppose for more experienced players it can be figured out, but I think the less experienced players could feel confused at the game mechanics.

Overall this is a very interesting concept I could see being fleshed out further. Great job!

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the detailed feedback.

I agree on the lack of tutorial. The original plan had the priest guide you through, but because I ran out of time I ended up with just that letter-style message at the start and made the chickens give you various tips about the game, some more useful than others.

The NPC's are quite simple. The base that all NPCs extend from is only 80 lines of code, dealing with navigation, taking damage and death. The heroes are the only ones that have more complexity in the form of a spaghetti code that defines their routines and how to transition, because writing a handful of if statements on Sunday afternoon was faster than remembering how to do behavior trees :)

I do plan to turn this into a more complete game.

Oh yeah I was going to comment on the chickens too. I admit it was a pretty funny idea, but also in practice it was a wee bit annoying, since there was a few problems with the text such as having them overlaps each others; or the chickens keep moving away before you can read all the texts, then you can't read that line again because the chickens dialogue was random.

As a jammer myself I understand the struggle of having to make tutorial as some of the last stuffs you do when you trying to scramble for a jam deadline, but I think in your case it could have been way more useful than in like a platformer like my game.

Amazin game! In all categories!

Had to stop myself from playing it for too long LOL

i really look forward to what you do with this in the future

Developer

Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it!

This will become a full game at some point.

Cool game with the nice concept of sabotaging heros for money. Looks decently polished too!

Minor issues I had is I wish my character could run a bit faster (Sprint function maybe?), and I managed to get stuck the first time I dug a grave by clipping myself between the newly made grave and an existing one.

Otherwise, solid entry and good job!

Ah yes, that bug. A few people ran into it (including Ducky Dev on livestream). It's on the list of immediate fixes after the jam.

Glad you liked it, and thank you for the feedback!

Loved this one! I've got a soft spot for the old retro style aesthetic, and it was fun to totally not at all sabotage the heroes in their Sisyphean task of goblin slaying xD

Developer

Thank you, I'm really glad you loved it!

Very cool idea, I love it. Reminds me of Graveyard Keeper. Also I didnt know digging graves was so lucrative, time for a career change! :p

Developer

Thank you, glad you liked it. I didn't know about Graveyard Keeper, I'll check it out.

Super fun and polished game! Love how it looks and playing the game! Had a lot of fun picking up dead bodies. Love how the game feels lived in and I'm doing my part. Amazing job!!

Developer

Thank you, I'm happy you liked it!

The NPC behaviour (villagers, soldiers, heroes, etc.) was a core focus of this project so I'm stoked you found it immersive.

Very cute! I love the artstyle, reminds me of Caves of Qud.

Developer(+1)

I never got to play Caves of Qud but I've seen some videos. I'll give it a try.

Thanks for playing, glad you liked it.
