Interesting game with a nice level of polish!

The gameplay felt a bit too simple for me — essentially a ā€œfit the shapesā€ loop. The sheep gimmick is charming, but not quite deep enough to keep players engaged for a long time. Maybe focusing a bit less on the numbers of levels could help with this. That said, I really appreciated the inclusion of an interactive tutorial; it’s always a strong addition, and it was very well executed here.

The art style is distinct and memorable, pairing nicely with the music and overall vibe. I think it could benefit even more from a restricted color palette and tighter pixel precision, which would give it an extra layer of visual impact.

The theme is well respected, though I feel it could have been explored in a more original way. The limitation was also handled without any issues.

Overall, this is a solid and valuable entry. With more unique gameplay mechanics and an extra push of polish (there’s never too much polish šŸ˜‰), it could really shine as a standalone mobile game. Great job, keep it up!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Yes. There are a bunch of things that need some polish and I already have some ideas keeping players more engaging. Very valuable feedback, thanks again!

"Apparently size does matter" šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ "Well at least you know how to click buttons" šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ I REALLY REALLY REALLY love this jam entry, Sherlocklini! It's a brilliant puzzle game. I got till level 27 breaking my brain without pressing the hints button. It's amazing! I would totally buy this on steam! I'm rooting for you! I'm going with the top score on this entry. The humor entertained me as much as the gameplay itself did. I feel like even the most positive reviews you've gotten don't do it enough justice! Your brain is amazing, I'm so jealous! How do you even figure out which difficulty to rank the puzzles at? I don't... smh. Like, they really do  gradually got harder and harder as well. This better be your full time job. As for the negatives: I found out I was stupid. There were nicer ways to break that news to me. šŸ˜‚

baa, bah!

Developer

Haha, thank  you soo much! :D

To be fair: I also wrote  on the itch.io page that the game is based on an actual board game (that is avtually mado for children...feel stupid yet? xD). Thus, not all the puzzles are made by my brain and made "sorting" difficulties much easier! Still I had so much fun creating this game and puzzles on my own. Really glad you like it! <3

As for the Itch page, you added a custom cursor to it. Mind if I ask how you did that? I can't seem to find the 'custom css' button anywhere. Is it something that unlocks if you upload more games? Or? How does that work?

Developer

It is due to custom Css indeed. To unlock you need  to write itch support an email and ask to unlock it :)

Hey. Really like the set up for this game. Unfortunately, I cannot get the shapes to rotate with RMB. It might be because I'm using a touchpad instead of a mouse.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I am sorry to hear it does not work for you. Are you also holding LMB for dragging the tile and pressing RMB while dragging?

(1 edit) (+1)

You're welcome. I was holding both buttons while dragging, but it does not seem to do anything.

seriously Iam suprised at the amount of levels you were able to made in a limited amount of time .. but still each level feels new and intersting to try and play , which show how skilled a game designer you are !!

the game is fun to play , but I wish you had added some new mechanics .. as I only played like 9 or 10 levels .. then skipped to the final ultimate level to see what difficallty the game has to offer .. and even so it took me a while to solve but in the end I was be able to solve it with out having to play all the levels

" after reading some of your responses I realized that was intended "

the music and sfx were really great and relaxing .. and adding the voice that explains how to play the game was a very cool idea !!

I liked the way you used the shapes limitation .. and the colors you shose  , it makes the game look and feel unique ... and finally the game idea relly fits the given theme

over all a really cool and well made game that I really injoyed playing it !!!!

Developer

Thank you so much! Yes indeed, it is supposed to be a chill game, while not each level needs to be played :) But I also will try to add a feature, so the sheep will eventually walk the path, if something is wrong :D This might increase experience, lets see :) Thanks again!

I remember seeing one of your games in a past jam — you’re really good at making puzzles! They’re always interesting, fun, and challenging all at once. It’s clear you’ve got a real talent for making players' brains melt in the best way haha.

First off, I’ve got to say I’m genuinely impressed by how many levels your game has... That’s no joke — you managed to pack in a lot of content here. Your ability to reuse the same mechanics and elements to create new levels was excellent, since it never felt repetitive.

I have to confess something... I cheated a little, sorry! I skipped a few levels to try out the different difficulties, and I made an interesting discovery: I’m really bad at puzzle games. I felt like my brain just wasn’t working — but, surprisingly, I actually managed to solve the ultra-mega-super-hard final puzzle. On the difficulty right before that one, though, it felt like the game almost gave me a free pass to move on — like, ā€œAlright, you tried... just go.ā€

Adding level hints was a great decision — and what makes it even better is how you implemented them: you give the answer without giving the answer. It still makes the player think, even when they know a specific color is supposed to go in a certain position.

You made really smart use of the shape limitation — going with all circles was a solid idea. The space limitation is also clearly present and well-used, since it plays a key role throughout the gameplay. The sound effects also added a lot to the game’s friendly vibe, so I’d say everything worked together really harmoniously.

Honestly, I don’t really have anything to complain about. I’d just say that, while adding tons of levels is impressive and adds value, you should be a bit careful about overextending the length — even in great games, some players might start to feel a bit bored and mistakenly blame it on the mechanics or design, when it’s really just fatigue from the sheer number of levels.

Congrats on the game — it’s genuinely fun, and your puzzles are fantastic. Keep up the great work, and best of luck in the jam!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback!

Regarding the level amount... I actually wanted exactly what you did: Skipping levels to try different difficulties :D For a puzzle like that I always think that one never needs to play everything because game play and mechanic is not changing out of a sudden and levels can be freely chosen. But I know now, that this amount of levels still is a bit too much for a jam and I will keep it shorter the next times :)
Many thanks again!

Pretty neat puzzle game, great job!! Loved your approach to the theme and limitation, having literally everything (including text and numbers) made of circles was super cool and easily earned a 5/5 on theme for me. I dig the minimalist style and the splash of color on the greyscale background worked really well imo. The sheep lore was pretty silly and whimsical and I enjoyed having that extra little bit of context.

I enjoyed the core gameplay loop and there is a very impressive number of levels for a jam. Moving the pieces around and rotating them feels smooth and responsive. My one big critique is that the puzzles need to have the exact solution required and there is no deviation allowed. This was a slight problem for me for 2 reasons: (1) the most fun part of a puzzle game is to "outsmart" the game and come up with your own creative solution and (2) occasionally I would solve the puzzle and then have to swap 2 identical pieces of different colors in order to satisfy the game's logic that I had completed the puzzle the correct way.

That being said, I really enjoyed the chill puzzle gameplay and the presentation and extra bit of charm with the lore/sfx made for a really enjoyable and polished experience. Cool entry!!

Developer(+1)

Many thanks!

There is a reason there is only one solution for each puzzle: You may be able to place all the tiles in the map, but you need to make sure there is no path of "small" circles to the edge of the map. If you placed the corner tiles "wrong", then there was a path for the sheep to escape the map...They might be the same tiles, but the "big" circle is at a different position (one in the corner, one at the outside of the tile) :D So you actually cannot "outsmart" these puzzles as they are already limited to one solution. I initially wanted to show the player the path when something is wrong (or let the sheep move the path), like in this picture:

But due to time constraints I was not able to  :b

ohhhh that makes more sense, I didn't realize, thanks for the clarification!

Quite a lot of levels!

I enjoyed playing the noob sections quite a bit. I was surprised to see that you also used inkscape for the art.
The game concept feels great and the chill vibe makes one get lost in this game quite easily.

The gray background feels quite dull tho.
Mby using a colored gradient would have worked a little bit better.

The pieces not aligning properly sometimes is a bit weird but it gets fixed easily by placing the piece down and taking it up again.

The introduction is smooth but I found the voice be a little distracting when pressing on hits. It took me out of the chill vibe I was having. It makes you not use the hint button so I guess it works out.=D

Developer

Thank you! :) I personally don't like gradients in combination with solid colors and also wanted the background to fade into the game page :D
I did not realize that the pieces do not align all the time. Do you have a screenshot here?

Submitted(+1)

I do not have a photo because the cursor disappears when I try to take the screenshot=/. From what I can tell this happens when you rotate the piece and move it in the left side then bring it back and rotate it again. It starts getting further and further away from the cursor.

Sometimes it gets too far way sometimes it works properly.
It can be easily ignored so I do not think you should worry.

Yea, idk if a gradient would fit that well, mby just a different color instead.

Developer

Ah I see! Thanks for letting me know :) I will try to recreate this bug and eventually get rid of it :D

really enjoyable little puzzle game! i didn't end up getting through all the levels but after playing through the noob section i skipped through to the harder levels and managed to solve a few of them. love the overall look and feel of the game!

only (very minor) feedback i can think of sometimes i found dragging and placing the pieces a little bit awkward, but it was completely playable so its not that big of a deal.

great work!!

Thank you so much!

Nice little spacial reasoning puzzle game. My notes said "probably too easy if I can do it" but then it really got going šŸ˜‚ nice use of the theme and limited shapes, the art style is excellent - really has a unique style that makes it instantly recognizable. So much content for a jam game, I'm impressed- did you make a level editor or something?

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I used Godot and created the basic level scene with a tilemap system. The map is then easily drawn for each level and correct "blocks", and the sheep can be placed anywhere...so it is kind of a level editor indeed. This way a level can be created within a very short amount of time. Just needed to set up everything in the first place :D

Super fun puzzles! Like ive been saying on many games since yesterday, this is not at all my genre but this was really really engaging! Great job on the really clever puzzles, it was obvious at first, but post level 7 or 8 i really had to think and for level 14 i had to take hints (which was also very well implemented). Extra marks for using only circles :D I had snapshots on discord, so i was wondering how it would come out and it really exceeded my expectations! Congratulations on a great game!

Developer

Wow, many thanks! Really glad you like it :)

Submitted(+1)

Nice puzzle game! I liked your usage of the theme where the player has to limit the space. Nice job going the extra mile and making all the text made out of circles lol! Also can't believe you made so many levels, I only got to play a few of them. A fun addition could be to add an animation of the sheep trying to escape after you place everything down.

Developer

Thank you so much!

The sheep walking the path was also an initial idea. I did not have the time nor knowledge for implementing, but I'll try to add it! :)

Submitted(+2)

Really fun puzzle game! despite the game's simple rules and few moving parts it still manages to create difficult and engaging puzzles which should be the goal of any great puzzle games.

theres an alt solution in level 7 that doesnt work but it should work.

Submitted

I had the same solution!

Developer

Thank you!

Very strange...this IS the solution. Did you try picking up a tile and placing it again? Did you initially place the tiles "wrong" so the hint would pop up? Don't know what happened there..but you did it correct!

Submitted

Yes I did try picking it up a placing it again. and no I didnt place the tiles wrong before it. I'm curious does your code actually try to get the sheep to escape to verify the solution or does it just check if its the same solution that you gave?

Developer

It checks the solution, while there also is only one solution for each puzzle.

Submitted(+1)

Yeah, smart games spirit is strong with this one :)

This is one of those puzzle games, where you go "just this one, and I'm off to sleep", but then you do another one, and another. Then it's late, but you had a ton of fun :)

This is also an original take on the theme. Most games I played so far have the player operate in a space that's limited, but this is the first one I played, where it's your task to limit the space.

Another strong point- the audio. First of all- any game that has voice acting gets kudos from me. Any game that has passive-agressive hint system... well, it certainly motivates you to think once more, before clicking :)

Two things that I'd change. When asking for a hint, you could ignore the pieces that are in a correct position, and go to the good stuff right away :) The other thing is- the first time I used the hint system, I was certain I got everything right. It would be fun to see the "sheep" move to the exit, or at least have the path marked. That way I'd know where I need to fix things, and also, I wouldn't have to be told off by the hint button.

Last thing- 40 levels is a lot, and it's late, but I'm definitely going back to this one :)

Developer

Thank you so much!I also considered the hint system presenting correct pieces already. However: Especially in hard levels there are sooo many possibilities, how would one know where the correct position is even? This is why I decided to show all, no matter what...but I get what you mean here.

The moving sheep was actually a thing I really wanted to do! But due to time constraints and missing experience on how to code this kinda stuff, I decided to got the easy way... ;D I'll probably try to include this, because I really want to learn how to implement this kinda things.

40 levels is just the beginning - muhahah😈
Really glad you liked it! :)

This is a great puzzle game, the difficulty scale is on point. The final level took me 11 minutes. I also really like that a tutorial was added to the game, as the rules of the puzzles would be quite confusing otherwise.

The game feels super polished and unique given the limited shapes and theme.

Developer

Thank you so much, really glad you like it :)

Submitted(+2)

Super addicting puzzle game, how did you manage to make so many levels????

I made it to level 26 and suddenly I couldn't touch anything on the screen (no hint button or the shapes itself) I don't know what happended, I could only go back to the levels and restart but when doing others levels they also where untouchable. But that doesn't lower the score cause this game is a masterpiece for sure!

Developer(+1)

I know, right?! The game is inspired by an existing board game I know from my nephew that is called "Roadblock". I created levels by myself, but especially the hard ones I "borrowed" from this board game :) Thus, I "just" needed to create the specific building blocks to create a level and rebuild these ones eventually :D

I am sorry to hear that it did not work out of a sudden! I don't know what happened here, as I never experienced this issue...what browser were you using?

Thank you so much! :)

Submitted(+1)

I used Opera but don't think it's because of the browser, maybe I did some sort of action way to fast that maybe locks into a grabbing state ?

Developer(+1)

Might be a reason, yes!

I'll try reproducing it, let's see :)

Submitted(+1)

I didn't expect anything less but another great puzzle game, and I wasn't disappointed. I'm gonna be honest though, there is no way I will ever finish this game. It took me 20 minutes to finish a handfull of "Normal" levels and my self esteem can't take more than that ;D

I loved that you voiced the game (and the sound effects), the tutorial teaches the mechanic very well, having a lot of levels to chose from with different difficulties is also very good.

The art style is minimalistic but fitting. As far as I could tell you only used circles, right? So you managed to mae a game with even less shapes than available.

Good job on your very good game :)

Developer

Thank you veery much! I know that these kind of puzzles are definitely not made for everyone! :D Still with the hints it's hopefully lot easier :)

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Wow this was so fun, i played until level 20! as someone who plays shape fitting games a lot, this still made me think as i had to be careful of where to put big circle, which adds a really nice layer of complexity. the shape restriction didnt make this any less fun, and i dont even recall even seeing a pentagon! also, the baah sound for an incorrect solution really made me laugh haha, and the music choice was great, i didnt get bored of it even though it was on a loop. gg

Developer

Many thanks!! Did you need any hint along the way? :D

Submitted

no i didnt! but i definitely felt it getting harder. ill probably revist the rest of the levels once ie rater more entries.

Another great game of yours. Genuinely impressive. I’m amazed by your versatility, among other things. The execution and presentation are, of course, excellent. At the initial levels I didn’t find the concept too exciting, but then I went straight for higher levels—and then I appreciated the cleverness and appeal. Beautiful work.

P.S. The lack of transitions may be the only thing I found disappointing about this game, but I would only deduct a fraction of a point for that—so, still five stars.

Developer

Thank you so much!

I'll wait playing yours once the ratings are open :)
