Tbh, that stopping was intentional so that a player is deliberate about when they do the attack. 

i.e they should always be conscious of whether they'll end up in the red or not if they do the attack. That said, maybe I could've reduced it by a bit

Hmm... it could've kept your movement input at least, so you didn't have to repress the button to start moving again
