  • This game is punishing, frustrating and it's really fun! No performance issues when playing. Easy to grasp mechanics, yet difficult to master. I enjoyed the locomotion options of the missile and how wonky it can get trying to course correct. I really enjoyed hopping right back in after dying over and over. At times controls are a bit too frenetic for one single hand to manage. Offering alternate control schemes could be of benefit to the player. Especially two handed ones (arrow keys + WASD?) or utilizing twin stick schemes on a controller. Theme is on the nose and well reinforced with the opening cutscene. Art style is straightforward and clear. I wasn't overwhelmed visually when trying to track my missile vs space debris on-screen. Music and SFX fit the game and was well mixed. No overpowering or hard to hear sound cues. I can easily see this game expanding in content with other space anomalies, wider areas to traverse, thruster-configurations or mutators of sorts. GDD was well planned and diagramed. The effort in the GDD and scope really shined in the game development's execution. Menu and UI was well laid out and unobtrusive. Very unique having the game's mechanics right there to play around with before starting right in the menu, great addition!

Yes

Summarise your game!
THE LAST MISSILE is a simple 2D physics-based action game where the player controls a missile through space. You must dodge high-velocity debris, maneuver around large asteroids, all while staying in the battlefield (lest you self-destruct automatically). The game attempts to simulate space physics (simulated thrusters, no velocity damping).

Controls:
W to accelerate, A/D to "strafe", Q/E to "rotate". Keys activate thrusters instead of "directly moving the mission". Thus, holding multiple keys may give unintuitive results. Space physics!

Story:
The war between our planets has lasted years. The enemy ran out of missiles, but we have one left. You are the last missile. Fly to the enemy planet by dodging and weaving through a field of dangerous debris and destroy the enemy base.

There are six possible endings to the level.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
You are a missile - it is a very literal interpretation of the theme.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
We would love feedback on game feel and polish.

funny game, I like when I nuke my own planet

Satisfying controls/physics on the missile, I'd destroy the enemy base again! The variance on the speed of the space debris was sometimes wild. My best run had me just fly straight at the enemy base with no problems, but sometimes I would get hit by one thing and get launched out to space immediately. Would love to see the movement system expanded into a larger game!

+  Love the writing

+ Different endings are a great touch

+ Love the different flavor text when you hover over "restart level" after different endings

+ Controls are responsive and satisfying (once you get the hang of it)

- Asteroids and debris bouncing off the red border breaks immersion!

Developer

Thanks so much for the nice feedback!

Great game! The controls are a bit frustrating at first, but that just makes it more satisfying when you finally get the hang of it and blow up the enemy base!

Really fun game. Easy controls yet really difficult. I accidentally blew up my own base 10/10

Developer

Thanks for playing! (Despite your treasonous behavior)

Good Art, Nice music, quirky plot and flavour text that fits well with the vibe. Feels quite polished!

Loved the mechanics of controlling the missile, a little bit unintuitive for me to figure out strafing vs rotating when post collision with an object. Sometimes wished thrusters were stronger.

Finished all 6 endings. Accidently nuked my own planet when an asteroid came right at me in the very beginning.

Nice mechanics to implement could be difficulty (longer distance to travel), fuel mechanics, a health bar for collision.

Boundaries could be a little bit wider as colliding with a large object basically resulted in a instant kill as I spiralled out of the boundary.

10/10 for labelling the missile a missile, would not have known otherwise.

Thanks, Ninjast, for the detailed feedback.

> Finished all 6 endings.

Wow, you got the hardest ending of them all: SLOWPOKE. I think that one requires the most skill to pull off.

Fun game really liked the art and overall vibe! I may or may not have accidently nuked my own planet a couple times while first learning the controls - whoops

Fun game!

I would have loved more levels, but the game is cool nonetheless!

Developer

Me too! But you have to cut something in a game jam :(

Neat little game. Fits the theme perfectly!

I managed to hit a base twice, although the first time might have been my own base.

Awesome game, fantastic art and groovy music to add to the stress :D what more could ya want?  xD

I got an answer to my question, its the "Imbecile" ending XD!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for your kind feedback! I was a bit worried the imbecile ending would be too rude, haha!

Submitted(+1)

Nah, its fitting! :] And no need, ty for making this kewl game! x]

Theme is 10/10
also the need to have missile written on the missile, just in case someone mistakes it for something else?

Got the traitor ending by accident xD

Fun little game, well done.

Developer(+2)

The enemy didn't label their missiles, which explains why they ran out early!

Submitted(+1)

There's a traitor ending???? xD I gotta check this out!
