Hey since the creator has the audacity to ignore us, I want to know if anyone knows alternatives to this game...

I remember I came across a game similar game to this one (basically princess suddenly becomes queen etc.) but don’t know the game anymore

(+8)

I don't think I know the game you're talking about, but if you're looking for a similar game then how about 7kpp (also known as seveng kingdom princess problems). It's not finished yet but the demo's great and nearly complete to boot. In the game you're going to play the role of a delegate who represents their countries in hope pf alliances, the gameplay itself relies on both choices and stats with romances possible for both gender. What's quite interesting is though, you can chose what kind of character you'd play as (6 choices as of now) so as to enjoy a variety of conversations.

Another game hat might be good to play to pass time is:

- Rose of segunda: The game is set at ancient times where you'd play the role of a duke's daughter who's attending the prince's ball because her mother hopes for her to be the next queen. There's a total of 3 male li 2 female li and 1 secret li. The mc personality and choices changes depending on the choices you make along the story so the replayability value is quite high. The dialogue and routes quite interesting and the prince is on the cheap side too, so highly recommend this game.

- Royal alchemist (demo): The game's not finished yet right now but the emo is quite long and interesting, in this game you can chose to be either male or female, both of which are the next royal tutor of the 3 princes. Just like queen's crown and 7kpp, it uses both stats and choices for its gameplay and has eye catching artstyle, music, dialogue and plot along with routes which are unique in their own right. I haven't replayed it in a while but I think they'veupdated the demo so all the cgs are now colored. Try giving it a try if you have time.

Also not sure if you're going to takw this possitively but if you're interested in bl or bromance too then, I highly really illy recommend Valentyne- necromancer (something). It's a bl yaoi game which focuses on the life of the main character (name changeable) who's sent to study at the royal academy so he can control his newfound magic, only in that world, there are zombies. Yes, ZOMBIES which turns into popsicles if left on the road. The art for this game is really gorgeous, to the point it could rival or even outrank several otome games, the dialogue, plot and chemistry in the game is really great too. So if you're an open minded person with tons of free time, PLS TRY GIVING THIS GAME A CHANCE. IT'S a really freat game, I promise.

WELP, that's about it for similar pc games, good luck ;)))

oh and the game might've been long live the queen

(+4)(-2)

Omg yeah that was the game thank you so much. Thanks for listing all these  alternatives. Sad to see that the project is abandoned

(+7)

7 kingdoms a princess problem is AMAZING- deals with stats, political intrigue, murder plots, friendships, and a TON of romance options. best "otome" game I've ever played tbh can't recommend it enough

(+1)(-1)

that's sound impressive is there a full version of the game?

(+4)

Not yet! They're getting close to finishing and give a lot of updates on the project.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/329540171/seven-kingdoms-the-princess-problem

https://azalynestudios.tumblr.com/

Those are the main sites they use (mother/daughter duo). The game is just fantastic, literally not a single complaint about it from me (I have 5+ characters).

(+3)(-1)

I started to play it on Friday and I’m so hook! All these interesting routes and choices are so incredible. Can’t wait for the full game to be released😊

(1 edit) (+5)

You may also want to try Second Chance, very nice game with choices, consequences and immersive + romantic story.

(1 edit) (+1)(-1)

Plus, of course, great games are Cinders from MoaCube and Along The Edge from Novabox.

(+2)

Ooofers, your welcome, you might want to try cinderella phenomenon, it's a fun game.

Hanako Games (the maker of Long Live then Queen) also made Royal Trap: Confines of the Crown (it launched as Royal Trap but now goes by Confines of the Crown) which is based around political intrigue. It reminded me a lot of the Crimson Empire games which I don't think you can get anymore anyway.

It's a solitaire game of all things, lol, but Regency Solitaire has a pretty cute storyline too.

(+6)

Not similar to this one, but here are some I like:

- Cinderella Phenomenon (on steam)

- Aloners and Wilder (on here)

- The Lady's Choice (on here) and Wayhaven Chronicles (on Steam; Choice of Games)

- Regency Love (on Apple Store and Google)

- EbonLight (on here)

- When Comes The Night (on here)

All of them are either complete or actively being updated.

(1 edit) (+45)(-1)

Text based games:

Turncoat Chronicle is a little bit similar in terms of political intrigue and has a strong, cunning MC (like Petyr Baelish cunning).

The Rightful Heir - similar to turncoat chronicle, except from the exact opposite perspective.

The seven heirs of Ophaesia - you play as the hated 7th child of a king left to learn and adapt to the court intrigues.

Guenevere - play as the wife and queen of King Arthur.

Heir to the Throne

Affairs of the Court: Choice of Romance  *COMPLETED*

Tudor Intrigue - play as a lady or a lord during King Henry VIII of England's rule. *COMPLETED*

The Paths to Greatness  *COMPLETED*

Visual novels/games that include graphics:

The Crown and the Flame from Choices: Stories you play - MC customizable

A Courtesan of Rome  from Choices: Stories you play - MC customizable

Cinderella Phenomenon - if you like fairy tales and cold princesses *COMPLETED*

The lady's choice - regency romance with a strong, opinionated MC *COMPLETED*

The Rose of Segunda *COMPLETED*

Queen at Arms - a fantasy VN with a strong MC *COMPLETED*

Long Live The Queen - more than a VN, it's actually pretty hard to get a good ending *COMPLETED*

The confines of the Crown -play as a prince's companion *COMPLETED*

Royal Alchemist - similar to Long Live the Queen.

Serafina's Crown - fantasy romance VN *COMPLETED*

Hampton Court - a funny VN where you play as a foreign princess at the court of Henry VIII. *COMPLETED*

Queen of Hearts

Cinders - play as a smart and cunning Cinderella *COMPLETED*

Seven Kingdoms: The Princess Problem - similar to Long Live the Queen with a lot of ROs

Oathbreaker - a fantasy VN with a mage MC that has a charismatic personality (includes character customization)

Ascension - another fantasy VN from Rin

Also, if you like choices games (even if they are only text adventures) like I do, here are some of my favorite ones:

[Note : a lot of these are WIP but nonetheless very interesting to play]

Wilhelmina - where practically you are Mina Murray from Dracula.

The Noir Curse - you play as a young magician that has been chosen to break the curse of eternal night on the land, along with other chosen ones.

(kinda reminds me of Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge, so if you like the book this game is for you)

Son of Satan: The Mortal Coil - if you like angels (or if you are a Supernatural fan).

Wayhaven Chronicles - you play as a detective in a supernatural world.

Children of Gods  - if you are a fan of Percy Jackson and/or the movie Troy.

The Beast and the Castle - retelling of Beauty and the Beast.

The Winter Child - if you are a Jack Frost fan.

Walking the lands of Dead - the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice.

The Rising Sun - if you are a fan of ACOTAR.

Choice of Robots - personally, my favorite text-based CYOA game ever. If you like Detroit: Become Human you'll find some of that game's concepts here.  *COMPLETED*

The Courting of Miss Bennet - you play as Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice. *COMPLETED*

Choice of the Vampire - if you are fan of Anne Rice's works. *COMPLETED*

- Zombie High from Delight Games - a little bit cliche but very addicting. *COMPLETED*

Other games I like:

Desire and Decorum (regency love) and It lives Anthology (if you like Stephen King's IT) from Choices: Stories you play - Customizable MC

When the Night Comes  - fantasy otome game released in episodes

CUPID - gothic romance VN  *COMPLETED*

The Arcana: A Mystic Romance - this game is beyond words

Stellamore - fantasy VN, similar in style to The Arcana

Ebon Light - dark fantasy VN - customizable MC

Wilder: Ran's Story - I never cried so much at a game *COMPLETED*

Seduce Me the Otome - romance demon boys ;) *COMPLETED*

Vampires: The New Birth and Red Embrace: Hollywood (includes character customization) - if you're a fan of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

Demonheart - dark fantasy VN *COMPLETED*

Reflections of the River - you play as the villain of the story, or not. *COMPLETED*

The Crossroads - supernatural VN with character customization *COMPLETED*

Cursed Lands  - fantasy RPG with character customization *COMPLETED*

Noctis Umbra - modern supernatural VN

Thank you :D You got me addicted to text games and now I'm sad all the best aren't complete yet lol

(+1)

ooof petyr Baelish. rip lol along with Szn 8

(+3)(-1)

We don't talk about season 8

(+1)(-1)

Thank you so much ^^

(+5)

I got so addicted to Guenvere and I'm SO SAD that it's not anywhere close to done 😭😭

Thank you very much for all this recomandation !

(1 edit) (+1)(-1)

Thank you for recommendations! You really opened me to COG titles.

My personal favourites:

Wayhaven Chronicles (yay, there are two parts to this incredible series as of now)

Fallen Hero: Rebirth (a superhero setting; the romance is so, so good if you love angst and pining)

Tally Ho
(a Woodhouse-inspired setting; the romance is scarce in comparison with the previous two titles, but very sweet and funny nonetheless)

SLAMMED! (a pro wrestling setting. no, really! the writing is very engaging. however, please take into consideration that if you want to play as a cis-gendered heterosexual woman, as in most otome, you'll have one love interest to choose from)

Choice of the Deathless (a Ace Attorney-like setting with literal demons. the writing is kind of psychedelic, but I liked it. the romance is very cute)

All of these games are both on COG website/app and on Steam. Considerably cheaper on Steam, though.

so the children of the gods probly wont ever get finished huh?

so children of the gods probly wont get finished huh?

Yeah children of the gods is abandoned unfortunately. :/ I just started playing a WIP called The Rosy Ones that seems to have similar elements with the greek gods and such. It doesn't seem that way at the start of the demo though. https://forum.choiceofgames.com/t/the-rosy-ones-wip/78632

(+1)

i just got to the end of the current demo. THANK YOU FOR THE SUGGESTION!!! I thought it was pretty good so far.

Thank you for this list! It actually introduced me to multiple new games in this vein which is really hard these days as I've scoured a lot of the web feeding my game addiction :3

As a broke college student with little to no spending money, I really enjoyed Cinderella Phenomenon. You can download it from this website for your own price :)

(+1)(-1)

As a broke college student myself I wanna thank I might check it out ^^

(+4)(-1)

https://gbpatch.itch.io/our-life

This is a really cute visual novel about childhood friends to lovers! The kickstarter is still going for about another three weeks and the demo is really cute!

"Our Life is a nostalgic Visual Novel where you create your own character and grow from childhood to adulthood with the lonely boy next door. It's currently in development by GB Patch Games. A 31,000 word demo is available for anyone who's interested. It includes scenes from childhood and adolescence.

A slice-of-life story with comedy, romance, drama, and many wonderful memories to make.

Price: Free-to-Play, with optional paid DLCs that add events and Love Interests

Rating: 16+, for swearing, crude humor, and suggestive content during adult-aged portions of the game

Release Date: Summer 2020

Platforms: Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, Steam

  • 4 different periods of life to experience; childhood, adolescence, teenaged, and adulthood
  • Name, appearance, personality, and pronoun (he, she, or they) customization for your character
  • The option to change your character's details however you like as you grow, including transitioning to new pronouns
  • A choice-heavy Visual Novel with frequent opportunities to shape your personality, feelings, and preferences
  • 1 main love interest, Cove Holden, whose personality, interests, and appearance will develop in a custom way over the years based on his experiences with you
  • Decide for yourself how quickly or slowly the relationship develops between you and Cove by setting a unique dynamic that can change over time
  • 6-8 hours of content that's free for everyone, plus optional paid DLCs that increase playtime
  • Light animation effects. The sun shines, characters blink, and more (animations can also be turned off)
  • Partial voice acting
  • A voiced name feature. Choose one of the options on a 400-name-long list and hear that name said aloud by Cove throughout the story ❤"

And the devs have a really solid record of putting stuff out and communicating with their fanbase!

It sounds like an ambitious game, but really interesting! I officially will wait this game :D Thank you for the recommendation!

Recently released - Ebon Light, free. Dark fantasy. I thought I wouldn't like it, but I'm a sucker for fantastic adventures and it quickly lured me in with its great writing and, well, characters, even minor ones. Also - I literally adore how you can customize MC's appearance and shape her character and actually see how text and relationships change throughout every playthrough. Seriously, give this game a go.

(+4)(-7)

I'm with you about "I thought I wouldn't like it"... Because my first impression on the art is not that great (I care a lot about art in a VN, and I'm not into realistic style), but this is FREE. What am I losing?? Thank you for the recommendation.

(1 edit) (+18)(-4)

I know it's been a few days, but I have to jump in and defend Ebon Light here for a moment.

Maybe the art isn't your preferred style, but it's rather rude to dismiss the undeniably phenomenal talent behind those intricate paintings (plus, a customizable MC with that level of painterly detail!?) as "not that great" or only worth playing because it's free and you don't have anything to lose.

Regardless of preference, Ebon Light has visuals painted by an incredibly dedicated and talented artist. The lighting, color, proportions, expressions, composition, contrast, and style are not only consistent and consistently impressive, but serve as a perfect complement to the tone and feel of the writing itself. The wide-eyed, sparkly anime girls and bright bubblegum colors that you seem to favor would do massive damage to the integrity and evocation of that macabre tone that makes the project stand out. That kind of art has its virtues and its place, but a project like Ebon Light is neither the time nor the place.

(+4)(-1)

Hello. Thank you for taking some time to respond. First of all, I apologize if I have offended anyone. I never meant to criticize Ebon Light in any way. So, let me defend myself in return. English is not my first language, so I'm sorry in advance for the errors I may make ^^"

As you have said, I have my own preference on art style. It unlikely will change. BUT I didn't mean to dismiss the talent and effort the artist has put to the art! What I meant with "not that great" is my first impression, not the art itself. The moment I looked at the blog I thought, "Oh, it's in realistic style..." in slight disappointment, because I prefer anime style. I downloaded anyway, because I love to play new things (I'm not one with wealth, of course I love free things ^^"). Even if I have this anime style preference, I try to look beyond art and prioritize the plot. Prioritizing plots, in the past I have bought some games (when it's on sale, cuz I'm broke lol) whose art style I don't like. Final verdict: One of them is my all time favorite.

I understand everything you said, the art complements the atmosphere, the vibe the VN has, everything is with purpose. I agree. I wasn't thinking it's "only worth playing because it's free and (I) don't have anything to lose". Not at all. With Ebon Light, I was just so happy it's free when I was in need of entertainment. I was and I'm sure it's worth a lot more.

I like to play blind. So, with Ebon Light, I didn't read any of the comments, not even the synopsis. I only knew the art style. That was how blind I was. That might be why my past comment sounded so shallow, because I didn't know anything about the premise or the features it gives us. Sorry once again ^^" As for this time, I have tried playing Ebon Light a little bit. I can tell you I was invested. It was good so far. I haven't continued, because I don't have time. I will continue when I do.

(1 edit) (+3)(-1)

Ah, that makes sense -- I think it was definitely a misunderstanding with language intricacies and phrasing. I see, now that you've clarified, what you were originally trying to say, what with the distinction between personal preference vs. objective quality. I'm glad you've decided to give the game a shot, regardless! I think it's fantastic -- a genuine artistic achievement. I won't spoil anything for you, though.

Also, I didn't mention this because it's beside the point, but your profile picture is really cute! It's kind of Rumiko Takahashi-esque.

(+2)(-1)

Yes haha I don't care a lot about my wording when I'm too excited. I just need to take note that people can misunderstand me. I have experienced the same before, even in my native language ^^" And yes! I'm happy I took a shot in many games I felt hesitated before! My favorites usually consist of "I will just try it regardless of what I think about the art style" games.

And, oh? My profile picture? *take a closer look because I have not paid attention to it for a while* It is certainly cute! (Duh, that's why I used it.) It does have that kind of style. I dunno who the artist is, but thank you, artist.

(+4)

I've only managed one full playthrough - but it is a damn good game.  The amount of depth hidden away in that game is amazing.  I really need to commit to another couple of playthroughs (although how I am going to pick someone other than Laceaga, I have no idea :()

(+1)(-1)

i really enjoyed laceys route ^^but  ernol is still my fave ^^

(+10)

Not quite the same feel but there's a game on here called Andromeda Six. It's a chapter based dating sim/visual novel that's still in development (currently only chapters 1 and 2 are out). You get to choose between 3 races which mildly affects dialogue. There are 6 characters to choose from so far, 4 men and 2 girls, with personalities ranging from soft, to douchebag, to thirsty af, to loveable goofball. Mild swearing but nothing too obscene. You start on a spaceship with no memory of who you are or where you came from. The game itself gives off very heavy Firefly vibes.

(+2)(-1)

hey, i just played it and i am hooked. thanks for the recommendation ^^

(+2)

could i perhaps suggest Changeling? its a fantasy modern vn with 5-6 li. (played it a long time ago so i cant quite recall how many li there were) you cant customize the character but you can change first and surname. its a really nice game and worth the $20

(+1)

you're welcome! sometimes it can really feel like we've exhausted the supply of otome/visual novels available lol

(+1)(-1)

OMG, thank you so much for such a detailed list. I usually only go for completed games or soon to be completed, so it was easy to filter what I would like. It´s also nice you stated the price and romance options. I´ve already saved a bunch of games for when I have time. Again, thank you!!!

I have played a similar art style rpg game as old as 2010 or even older. I really can't remember any of the characters. But I can remember a little bit of the story. So our main protagonist has to fight a boss called "hybrid"...the very 1st boss fight in the game if I remember correctly. And like skipping to the end of the the end game story. Our protagonist has to save a girl he really likes. But this girl is a really big boss fight that turns into a huge monster. But after a long fight our protagonist manages to even convince the woman to stop fighting and actually ends up with her in a field of grass and flowers. They just hold hands as the ending continues. If any of you know what this games name is or have a link to it please do tell me.
