The perpetual darkness is VIBEY.
Characters must light torches when venturing out of the town hex.
I appreciate the effort to maintain the torch mechanic even in an outdoor setting! The maps were incredibly helpful for navigation. I’m not sure if it was part of your inspiration, but I loved the inclusion of so many bug monsters. Overall, the wild west nods were integrated well into the Shadowdark setting, creating an engaging read.
Thanks for the comments! Yes the bugs were totally intentional, I imagined crossing the plains and getting attacked by rhinocerous sized beetles and getting stung and carried away by giant hornets! Meanwhile at the mining camp the trapdoor giant spider keeps slender threads by all the doors to know when prey is near!
Love the way you have your maps broken out over the adventure, super useful.
Love the hand drawn maps, I also really like the cowboy fantasy mashup! Nice one!
Thanks! I was going for a cowboy alien thing there!
The monster art at the end is awesome. Most of the maps were nice, though I did find it hard to read the grids on some of them (faint). The layout overall flowed with the story. I did find the indentation, especially with the bullet points took me out of wanting to be emersed in the story you were trying to convey. The Moongrasp, Mine, and Shrine of Pines Abbey were very nicely done. I appreciate the hand-drawn maps!
Thanks for the feedback! I just saw a great video on line weight for map making, so I'll have to give that a go in my next project. I'll also explore other methods for bulleting, again thanks for reading!
I love ghosts and I love Weird West adventures. I kept thinking of the song "Riders on the Storm" by the Doors when I was reading it.
