Very cool idea! The music, SFX, art, animations, ideas and mechanics were all really well done. Only criticisms I had were that the boss was a little too hard (or maybe just not enough indications of how much damage you've done to the boss) and that there weren't enough collectibles during the boss fight, when you are fighting your health drops a lot faster. Linking to previous games you've made in other game jams is an awesome idea, gives a bit of back story.

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed the art and animations, that's definitely where the bulk of my time was spent on this one.

It's always hard for me to judge the difficulty level... as the dev it quickly becomes a breeze. I should probably have added a life bar or some other tell so you know how the fight is going. Some tips below, which are *SPOILERS! Stop now if you don't want them*

The boss has 15 hp, and can only be damaged  by striking his eye while it is open. The green fire balls he shoots during that phase can be shot to drop some small power ups, but that will also protect the eye by blocking the shot.

Yeah the boss reminded me of Andross from Star Fox 64. And yeah having a heath counter for the boss or certain animations that the boss would do when hurt would help

This was a lot of fun to play, I like how it links to other games you made too. Love the animations

Thanks so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. This was a tough one to pull off for the deadline, hehe.

Wow... a fully hand animated game for a game jam, you absolute maniac. This kicks ASS. Movement and shooting feels good, the intro sequence draws you in, and there's even a boss fight. One of my favourite games from the jam, WELL DONE!!

Thanks so much! Yes, I lost my mind. The hand-drawn style was not my best choice for a game jam... but once I commit to something, I do my best not to back down! I had a vacation day I needed to burn off before the end of summer, so that's really the only reason I made the deadline!    -_-;

Plenty of ideas got cut and left by the wayside, and as Ran mentioned in the main comment section, the ending could really use some work. I'm planning to make an update to that part at least.

Anyhow, I'm really glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for playing. :)
