Very solid idea, metal as f*ck. Only thing I found was there wasn't very many islands to collect to upgrade your soul grinder. Great job!

Thanks man! The enemies tend to cluster towards the center of the map in a big grind fest - I think we'll make them spawn more evenly in future builds

It's really confussing at first but when you watch the videotutorials that you did It's easy to catch it. I love the mood of the game and the man mechanic its really well design and programmed!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a ton!

I would be glad if you give some feedback and rate my prototype for the jam!

AT first I was running around unsure what to do, and avoiding death, then I learned how to actually play. I love the game. It got a bit laggy when bigger Enemies started showing up

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yeah we need to do some serious optimisation when big fights break out haha. I think the excess of particle effects is the main culprit

That is dam good weary original idea and definitely worth to develop further.

Developer

Thanks!! We're working on multiplayer now!

Love the concept.  Might play better if just being close to things grows your island instead of having to click on things.  A little more texture to know that you are moving would be great.  Also, a time limit or some goal also seemed to be missing.  Overall, though lots of cool stuff.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I think it needs a middle ground so you don't lose the creative expression of building your ship. Maybe you can scoop up a bunch of gibs quickly, then you can just click to place them instead of dragging each one individually. And yeah, we ran out of time to add the big boss monster at the end (the guy in the lava) :(

Creative asf, however the movement feels very very weird, it imo would've been better with full WASD movement instead of having to rotate with A/D

Developer

I should add an option for that! I guess you'd rotate by moving the mouse?

Yeah, the game is great, an idea worth taking beyond the jam.

"an idea worth taking beyond the jam" - i agree!

One of the most creative games I've played from the weekly game jam. My only criticism is that I lost that badass metal theme when I hit replay :)
Also ditto on the multiplayer, this design seems prime for it.

Developer

Ah man, such kind words! I'll definitely have to have a crack at multiplayer, it'd be tons of fun.

And damn, missed that bug - thanks!

I really enjoy games that lean into multiple gaming disciplines. Here, you have strategy, creativity, and reflexes and I can definitely envision a multiplayer version of this much like Slither or Agar.io. I would love to witness battles between quick builders, creative builder, and adept pilots.

In terms of critiques, I found the screen a bit too small and the equipping too precise. Maybe instead of having 8 directions, limit it to 4 and have the equipment slots bigger and easier to click on?

I may be dumb, but it was also unclear to me who's limbs would be decapitated first. Would be great if there was a health indicator!

And lastly (this is complete personal preference), I found the game too "red". I know it fits thematically, but I was having trouble processing the floating attachments, ships, and movement trails from the orange background.

That said, this game definitely has potential as a multiplayer game. Would love to know if you have any plans to pursue that route!

Thanks for the great feedback! Although it's not my strong suit, I'd love to try to get some multiplayer working in the future.

The game is definitely difficult to read and very fiddly, so quality of life improvements are high priority.  We originally had it as 4 directional placement but it really reduced the creativity of the ships you could make. I think with some building improvements and a bit of camera zoom while stationary it could work just fine.

Again, thanks for the super kind words!

Really nice game! the game mechanics is intriguing, and even tough i'm not really a fan of the theme, i found it interesting to play :) Graphics, audio and mechanics fit together really well, good job!

Very creative game! I liked the options that the player is given as to where they want to place each piece onto themselves to create deadly shapes as strategy. The learning curve was a little steep as I didn't know what to do at first then got mobbed by enemy characters but I was finally able to get the hang of it. This game kind of reminds me of games like Slither.io and Agar.io where you compete with others to become the biggest and strongest. Possibly you can add a feature where you automatically gain some of the limbs/weapons off of enemies that you defeat since manually having to place them is a little time consuming for this fast-paced game. Also the sound that the objects do whenever they die is a little too loud in comparison to the rest of the game. Other than that I really liked your game, keep it up!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah I think it would be great to have a bit more of a graduating difficulty curve, and some time to get acquainted with the controls. We'll probably add some more features in the future, and that auto grab mechanic sounds great :)

Absolutely brilliant game and outside of box thinking.
