Visuals are great; beyond the stylized 3d look, things like the start screen and level switch animations were excellent. I only solved the first room but very satisfying when I thought to check the last place and everything fell into place. The discrete almost tile-based movement works really well for this because there are a finite amount of 'screens' the player has to check for clues.

Developer

Thank you so much for the kind words, glad you enjoyed it! Haven't made it around to your game yet but will soon!

I'm adding to my list of life's greatest achievements the fact that I was able to solve room two. Granted, both rooms took a bit of brute-forcing once I had 90% of the info required, but still. Nice game overall, and some great puzzles (if a bit too esoteric).

Developer

Thanks! Definitely wished I was able to design the puzzles better, but glad you were able to solve them both (even if through brute-force).

Loooove the lo-fi 3d look! First puzzle is pretty well designed, and it's cool being able to walk around and look at loads of stuff.

There's not much in the way of audio, but you got a lot done considering you were busy. Would definitely like to see this expanded to a full game.

Developer

Thanks Manti! Yeah honestly my overwhelming disappointment with how it turned out might be enough to try to rework it into something I have better feeling about. I'll make sure to get all the audio implemented if I go that route haha.

For not having enough time, you definitely have something fun. It reminds me of the Myst games where you needed to write things down puzzles. Including the virtual notepad is pretty cool as well, and it didn't feel buggy at all. It took me a bit to figure out the first room, but I figured it out eventually. The second puzzle I wasn't able to figure out unfortunately. I definitely liked this game. Well done!

Developer

Haha I'm glad you were able to figure out the first room! Second room is entirely just poor design unfortunately. Glad you liked the notebook! Seeing people play it, it's super interesting seeing some people use it very often and some not at all. Thanks for the feedback!

Finally got around to playing and I had a great time! I really love the Inscryption inspired aesthetic and movement mechanic and I actually quite liked the escape room search puzzles (I am a big escape room fan anyway so you had me from the start ;D) Nicely done!

Developer

Thanks so much!

Very polished game.  The controls felt tight, the visuals were good, and it felt cool rotating objects around and finding hidden things on the back.  It really captured that escape room feel!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much, your game was very polished as well!

Thanks so much for taking the time to play it!

Really nice presentation of this whole thing. I enjoy how the cursor changes when hovering over certain elements. I kinda like the inscryption-style controls but I wish that I could step back and exit from closer inspections with "s" and just open the book on an interact key like "e".
While I was playing I managed to get through both rooms without ever figuring out how to interact with the safe and without really using the tile shifting puzzle. It gave me the rest of the information pretty easily and then I could just brute force the rest pretty easily.

Still, had a nice time with this game and again, top tier visual representation :)

Developer

Thank you so much! I definitely feel like some of the keybinds could be better, if I continue development I'll keep that in mind!

I really like the vibe of the game and generally that it's a room with puzzles. I liked being able to take notes but it doesn't work when zoomed in on an interesting scene. So it was a little less practical than it could be (it still was useful though). The restricted movement added to the puzzle game style.

Developer(+1)

Huh that's strange, I haven't had anyone have that bug, for me it works as intended as well (you should be able to pull the notebook anywhere essentially). I'll have to look into that more, thanks for the feedback!

Very interesting

Developer

Thank you!

Such a cool entry with a great presentation, I love that pixelated lowpoly aesthetic. As many, I couldn't solve the 2nd puzzle but I reaaaaaally wanted to.

I've also found a bug: when you zoom in the safety box and click on the cup next to it, the animation overlaps and once you return the cup, you get stuck in a weird state where you can only check the cup but cannot interact with the box or quit that puzzle.

Developer

Loved the style of your entry as well! I'll have to fix that bug after the jam if I decide to wrap the project up! Thanks for the feedback!

Very interesting. Lot of contents and features. Except for the audio missing some background music and figuring out how the start button works I find the execution was very well done. I love the retro style pixelized aesthetic and like the punctual sounds. The book thing is really funny. I thought you couldn't erase at first so I optimized the space hahaha.

A bit subjective comment (And a bit picky :D ) so I won't hold it against you. I am not to sure about the movement system would have preferred to just move around but I guess it's probably a reference to old school image based games. It works great though. Camera transitions are so smooth and nothing wrong in the feature itself.

Other than that puzzles are well designed at least for the first room. It's super intuitive to play. I really like the visual of the second room. Escape game enthusiast would love it. Thematic works well. Could be a very interesting game if you decide to continue. Nicely done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! The movement admittedly is purely a stylistic choice, can totally understand wanting a more freeform system.

This is a very clever game and I absolutely loved it. I managed to beat it, with a bit of brute forcing in both puzzles to be fair. Some clues I didn't get (like the ship figurine in the second puzzle), but overall, this was very well made.

What I liked:

1. Beautiful aesthetics

2. Great use of audio and visual queues for feedback

3. The controls are tight and responsive

4. Challenging puzzles, but not too obscure to solve (you just need to be observant)

5. The notebook mechanic was a good addition to the game

What I didn't like:

1. I wish there was some background music playing while I was solving the puzzles. Each puzzle takes a good amount of time to solve and you will feel a bit frustrated during that time. A bit of calming music would be great in my opinion

2. The up and down arrows on the door combination keypad could have a different color or have a light on them so the player can immediately see them (took me a second to see them)

Other things and suggestions:

1. In the second level, there's a bug where you can pull the last piece of paper without needing to solve the square puzzle (idk what it's called lol). I solved the puzzle anyway, but I didn't know that it unlocked something I wasn't supposed to find before solving it

All in all, this is a great game, and I would love to see the concept expand into something larger. Great work :P

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for the detailed response! There was music made but unfortunately I managed to somehow not have time to actually implement it haha. Different color keys also makes sense. Admittedly like I’ve said the second room was very rushed and had to be changed multiple times, so the ship was actually a remanent from and old puzzle I forgot to take the interaction script off of haha. Didn’t know about that bug either! Really appreciate all of this!

amazing work. A work of art

Developer

Thank you so much!

Submitted(+1)

love the notebook feature hehe , the second puzzle is very confusing and couldn't figure it out, but love the aesthetic of the game, the lack of music make me feel like if I was playing a horror game :P, very nice work!

Developer

There was actually music made but i didn't have time to implement it haha. Second puzzle is just designed poorly, ran out of time, my bad. Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Loved the graphics and the notebook! Although I didn't use it at all :v

And I am really not sure on what to do with all the shapes in the 2nd puzzle. There are no share signs expect the clock, which I can't manipulate. It's a bit confusing.

And the main menu animation is really cool! It would be a bit better if I could access the settings menu . But overall, great game!

Developer

Thanks! Yeah the second room is definitely not great, some people have solved it but it was rushed and designed poorly. And yeah didn't have time to actually implement settings haha. Glad you liked the graphics!

Great Job Axel making a retro escape room type game! Very rewarding puzzles!

Developer

Thank you!

Man, did I feel dumb playing this game, ha. This was the one I was most excited to play. Thought it was great, looked amazing, really challenging (at least for me) puzzles. I could tell with the audio and stuff you maybe ran out of time but that's how jams go. Fantastic job.

Developer

Haha definitely don't feel dumb, they're probably just poorly designed. Yeah, fun fact, I spent a few hours working on a background track for the game, that I didn't have time to actually implement XD Thank you!

Submitted(+1)

It's my favourite game now

Developer

Thank you!

Submitted(+1)

you finished it! :D it was really cool adn i beat level one but i had no clue what was happening in level two ._.

Developer(+1)

Haha don't worry about it, definitely fell a bit short from my goal. I might post video of the entire game later on, and maybe continue developing it a bit further just to make sure everything is bit nicer. Thank you though, can't wait to play yours!
