VR Station Demo Disc Game Jam

*Technical Specification Document & Rules*

Welcome to the VR Station Demo Disc Game Jam, where we're taking a righteous trip back to the PlayStation 1 era to create rad games with that iconic '90s vibe. So grab your chunky pixels and neon shades, because it's time to dive into the technical nitty-gritty and the rules that'll guide your creative journey!

**Technical Specifications:**

1. **Graphics & Style:**

   - Emulate the PlayStation 1 era: Think low-polygonal models, chunky pixels, and vibrant colors.

   - No mipmaps allowed: Keep that authentic retro texture look.

   - Point filtering required: Deliver that groovy pixelated appearance.

   - Use vertex colors for lighting effects.

   - Real-time vertex lights are allowed. As well as baking to texture. Lightmaps can be in the original trim-sheet or via a second 256 texture. (UI / HUD elements / Dialogue is excluded from the 256 x 256 trim sheet and can be used outside your texture limits.
This means that anything you put on a canvas with the intent to use for character speech, and on screen elements like a health bar or title screen can be unlimited resolution.)

2. **Gameplay:**

   - Must run on modern systems with VR capabilities including Oculus quest and Android.

   - Focus on "atmosphere": Create a world that tell stories and emotions flow. This can be non gameplay as well. Environmental story telling allowed.

   - Max of 15,000 polygons for the entire jam: Embrace those hardware limitations!

3. **Art Assets:**

   - A single 256x256 trim sheet for all in-game art assets.

   - Characters, objects, environments - all must fit within this constraint.

**Rules & Guidelines:**

1. **Eligibility:**

   - Open to individuals or teams of up to 4 members.

   - All participants must have access to VRChat.

2. **Theme:**

   - The theme is "Creating Something Atmospheric."

   - Develop a game or environment that immerses players in a world that holds a tale.

3. **Submission:**

   - Games must be developed using VRChat.

   - Submissions should include a YouTube Video and a brief description of the gameplay and atmosphere.

4. **Assets:**

   - All in-game assets must be original creations.

   - Use of other games is strictly prohibited.

5. **Technical Requirements:**

   - Submissions should run on all platforms supported by VRChat (e.g., Oculus Quest, HTC Vive, Valve Index).

   - Provide technical breakdowns of any cool things you have created! The point of this jam is to have fun and learn from each other!

6. **Scoring:**

   - Entries will be evaluated based on adherence to the PlayStation 1 aesthetic, atmosphere, creativity, and overall experience by the public.

7. **Submission Deadline:**

   - Submissions must be uploaded to itch.io by 2023-10-04 00:00:00.

8. **Ownership & Usage:**

   - Developers retain full ownership of their creations. And may sell them afterwards.

   - By submitting, developers grant the event organizers and any media coverage the right to showcase their games for promotional purposes.

9. **Community:**

   - There will be a community showcase where users can access your submission on the VRChat platform. We encourage you to join our world hopping event once that is live!

10. **Code of Conduct:**

    - Respect fellow participants and their work.

    - Do not engage in any form of plagiarism or cheating.

11. **Have Fun!**

    - Embrace the PlayStation 1 vibe, get groovy with your creativity, and relive the '90s gaming magic.
