Really nice how you adapted the theme! Being able to transform into other shapes was cool and added a lot to the gameplay. We would love to see a bit more text/character development in it, but for a platformer, it was enough to keep us going. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks!
I agree that some more character development could have added, I was worried about adding too much text to not take away from the intensity of the game.
I tried to voice act the announcer at some point which would have really helped, but my voice sounded too cringey :D

I like the idea with the shape shifting. Overall a very fun game to play!

Thanks!

Enjoyed so much. Nothing to say other then I would have loved to play around with the switching forms a bit more. I mean that in a sense that I wanted moar levels!

Mad props and I hope you continue working on this as the end of the game kept me thinking on how the story would keep going with Dave escaping the circus and unveling what's behind the show and the game world

Developer(+1)

Thank you :)

I have lately started planning this out as a full game, and hopefully I will be able to do it and explore the mechanics and narrative further :)

Looking foward to it!

Very good. Had lots of fun playing it and would definitely play more levels!

Game mechanics were strong. Switching between forms, really added to the game and made it feel good when we switched at the right time to pull off a section, especially when on the verge of the sun catching you.

Great that you did you're own artwork. It all looks good and the effects for sun and volcano looks really beautiful. Maybe could work on the animation for the characters, but it worked and I know the feeling, took me ages to get a walk animation half decent and you've got a walk, wolf run and bat fly, so not a criticism, just something that would polish the game.

I think the story was surprisingly good. Not something I'd have expected coming into this game. The concept is awesome and I like that you setup the crack in the window for the ending.

Overall strong game and I don't know if you're continuing this game, but I think it would be really cool with more levels and explore the lore of why humans and vampires are part of this game as it's a cool concept! :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot!

Yeah animations are so hard to make haha
I spent so many hours just trying to get the vampire running animation to look decent enough to be in the game, that my standards for all animations kind of went down :)

I'm really happy to hear you would play more and that you liked the story.

I have actually started planning out what the game would be like if I were to continue it, and I am starting to really consider making this a full length game, and of course as you said, explore the lore much further.

No problem!

Yeah same here, it can be extremely time consuming to just get them decent.

Wow that's awesome! I'll be sure to keep an eye out for future releases if you do continue this :)

Developer(+1)

Awesome that's great to hear!
I will try to update the game page soon with my plan going forward :D

Very enjoyable game.  Visually I love the color palette, especially for the parallax background.  I wasn't a huge fan of the character art, but to be fair, they're a lot harder to draw than backgrounds.  The music was good and the narrative was surprisingly interesting.  The gameplay I thought was fairly unique and did a good job hooking me until the end.  One suggestion I would make is to make the jump a bit less floaty.  It was serviceable but if it had a bit more weight it would feel really nice to platform on.  Overall, great entry!

Developer

I agree about the characters, they were actually the first thing I drew for the game and I feel like I got much better at art towards the end. I also had a lot of time to polish the background and tiles but the characters had to stay the same after I created their animations.

It's a good point about the jump, I think increasing the player's gravity a bit more could probably really help, I didn't think to do that.

Thank you for the feedback, I'm really happy you liked the game!

Lol, I like how both humans and vampires have been enslaved by machines for entertainment.

Developer

Glad you liked it :)

Great game! use the 3 vampire forms is good to understand the vampiric nature ;)

really a great rating here, one of the best games that I see just now in the jam, now some critique:

when I play, the wolf form was used a little, so I don't see more advantage than bat form (is more for run long). The velocity of gameplay looks some slow, at first is good, but to retry one and another time, it feel slow. The level design is good but is some hard to me even in easy mode so I dont know how the story ends... The wolf looks like an unicorn, in gray / black was better I think...

Beauty art!!!

Thanks a lot for the feedback, I'm happy you enjoyed it!

I think the advantage of the wolf might be more noticable in higher difficulties, as the sun is much faster and to get ahead of it you need this form as it moves the fastest and eats people faster.

I agree that starting from the start each time can be a bit slow. I was struggling with this when designing the game because I didn't want checkpoints so there is a motivation to do well and get potions in the start to get distance from the sun for later.

I should have probably made easy mode a bit easier, maybe by having a bit of a different level design for it.
I was counting on it so people can see the whole story, but I see how this game can be hard even with just the level design.

You are probably right about the colors of the wolf, a unicorn is not what I was going for :D

normally in platforms the way to lose is falling down at void or at lva, sticks, etc; here you los with sun and fire, so game design at end is more difficult than other platformers; you can make initial easy zones with little voids and need to jump fast to evade the sun, in difficult zones the sun and voids are many

Developer

That's a good point, I didn't want to make the start too easy so people won't have to keep redoing everything when losing only at later parts every time.

But thinking about it now I should have probably had a checkpoint somewhere towards the middle, it would also allow me to make the game a bit longer, and the ending part more intense.

Great visuals! The burning effect when the sun comes out looks incredible. The amount of attention given to building a narrative is really nice to see, and immerses you in the world. Shapeshifting is a fun mechanic to explore, and the quick transformations using individual keys makes the controls feel tight and responsive. Nice job.

Developer

Thanks you very much!

I had a lot of fun building the narrative once I got the idea and I'm happy that it worked :)
