A platform game is one of the hardest type of game to create as you have to be very precise on certain levels but allows smooth moves and not being too punitive on the other hand. It seems a great idea but did not even ended the first level after trying 10 times :( I guess I could not see clearly the collisions on the stain.
To be honest, it is only on my fourth trial, and after reading the comments that I understood the absorption mechasnism. But once this mechanic is understood, the fun begins !
Thank you for this entry, I really enjoyed it!
If you decide to pursue this idea (which I encourage you to do!), I have encountered some minor bugs, notably after separation. Once I had a ball stuck in a little hole in the wall, although a simple merge-separation unlocked me.
Great game that makes you think!
A little difficult playing with a QWERTY keyboard. A quick fix for this could be:
The idea is really cool! It's too bad that it's a bit less fun alone.
One suggestion: reduce the color stains' hitboxes, it felt a bit too punitive (e.g. sometimes I was barely touching the stain and I had to start all over), reducing the hitbox would make it a bit easier and more about the puzzles.
For a first game it's really great job !
Thank you for your feedback :)
Ahah you are right on color stain's hitboxes, I was really meticulous to put the collisions on the limits of the stain but regarding all the feedbacks I got about the game being too punitive, I was a bit too picky on that !
PS: Thank you for answering to K3nzngtn while I was away :)
Nice entry ! I really loved the idea and the execution. With some more polish and more level design (like a timer !) and with the game being a little less punishing (for example : you can do three mistakes, but after that game over, instead of full restart), I could see this being a nice party game :D
Et merci pour les touches azerty :D Je me suis bien amusé
Thank you for your feedback !
I got a lot of feedback about the game being too punitive. I guess I was really focused on making it work and I tested the levels so many time to check if they were feasible that in the end I did not thought about the balancing for other players XD
And regarding the timer, I thought about it but I did not want to create disadvantages if you were playing alone and you needed to controls the colors one after another compare to when you have two friends to play with you.
But I'm curious what did you have in mind when you mentioned a timer ?
ahah avec plaisir pour les touches ;)
I was thinking about the second option : just a way to compare yourself to other players :)
But yeah, I don't think that should be a hard time-limit timer, as the game already feels quite punishing already !
Nice little jump and run. :)
The controls for the blue color are a little awkward, but maybe because I'm playing on a QWERTZ keyboard?
What I did not grasp, was the absorb functionality. How does that work?
Not the dev but I just played it and here's what I got.
Yes it seems to be tuned to AZERTY keyboards (which i know because it's the one we use in France). On windows you can switch to different keyboards but you might need to download it.
About the absorbing functionality it took me a while to understand: when 2 balls are in the same spot you can press "down" with both balls to merge into one ball with resulting color the mixed color. For instance blue + yellow = green, then you can pass green walls, then you can switch back to 2 separate balls
thank you for the clarification. I might have to try it again then. 🙂
Hey there !
Cereale already answer all your questions I guess :)
Sorry about the controls, it was suppose to be really simple for AZERTY keyboard but I did not think about the other keyboards xD
In an ideal world, I would have let players choose the controls at the beginning of the game but for a first jam, I thought it would take me too much time to add this feature. But I will keep it in mind for future games :)
And regarding the absorb functionality, I guess my "tutorial page" is not enough. I was hoping the level design of the second level to encourage players to experience that since you need to turn to orange really quickly. But not really explicit if you missed the controls before :)
I wasn't aware there is AZERTY, I always thought I had only to deal with QWERTZ and QWERTY. But that's what jams are good for I guess, getting input on things you typically won't think about. :)
About the absorb functionality. My bad, I didn't play far enough, because I thougt there was only one level. I'll try again this evening. Thanks for you answer. :)
