DIM DREAM SWEEP

5th grade science has gone too far!

Always love a nice callback to PC-98 characters. You guys are the real winners in my heart, no matter what! Of course, it helps that the game itself is nice too 😎

Developer(+1)

Couldn't miss this chance to create some PC-98 representation, thank you for playing!

Pretty solid twin-stick shooter. The levels seem to be all RNG spam, but it doesn't result in weird difficulty spikes and the life system is forgiving anyway. I think the levels could be a bit shorter, and the disk enemies have better visibility, but otherwise, I have no complaints. Solid game.

Oh, and I'm glad to see the OST got uploaded. It's among the best in the jam.

Developer

There's some order to how things show up as it's pretty much a timeline of specific enemy type spawners I set up so that they activate and deactivate but their positions are pretty much random yes, I'm happy it didn't cause too much trouble. Thank you for playing and for the feedback

Developer

thanks so much! im still surprised i managed to make these songs before the deadline. would've loved to make more, but you gotta do with what you got or whatever (i forgot how the saying goes..)

Snappy controls and really good music! the music was so good, I wish the composer made another track for when the background turns to night time, so I can hear more good funky music! I really liked the art and sprites too! I laughed when the chubby ghost (not yuyuko) appeared. Though I hate that yellow and green bullet shaped enemy, boo! They are the worst.

Good game!

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing and commenting! Really appreciate it

Developer

noting this down! 🐸

If there weren't more games to rate I'd probably keep playing this one! The art is very cute and the gameplay is a little addicting as others have said. Just nitpicking but I think it would be better to put the controls somewhere in the story cutscene as I failed to notice the tutorial button on the menu lol.

Developer

Still surprised people are finding it addicting, glad you liked it! I wasn't expecting some people to not notice the tutorial button haha, I'll take notes for next time

This game looks really nice. I think the stages could be paced a bit better, but it is pretty fun to get through all the waves.

Developer

Thanks a lot!

Twinstick danmaku game. Enjoyed it.

So there's an enemy introduced in stage 3, it's a yellow-blue bullet that shoots red bullets? Everytime one appears I get confused because all the other bullets are just not shootable. I do think a different sprite for this enemy would fare way better at conveying that it's a shootable. (like, idk, these evil eye enemies from the PC-98, or kedamas?)

The stages seem randomly made but I think there's some sort of enemy wave system? I guess that makes the challenge OK, but maybe a lil bit too much at the whims of the RNG lord. At least it's not too hard nor too easy.

Also I've been replaying the boss battle theme (from my gameplay recording) while typing this comment because holy shit it's funkin', does this track have a name and where can I listen to it freely

Developer(+1)

Very in-depth and well written feedback comment, I really appreciate it. That stage 3 enemy is not a bullet but rather an enemy by itself yes, it just looks way too much like enemy bullets which was a huge mistake I somehow missed (Probably because of the usual jam panic).

Stages have this timeline which activates and deactivates different enemy spawners which start sending you a set type of enemy in a random direction (With some limits of course), RNG is definitely a huge risk to take when it comes to games like these even if it makes things a bit quicker. Honestly since it turned out decent enough I might mix it in a bit with actual enemy placement in a future game, I'm thinking of new ways to program and make levels as I type this and it says a lot about how differently a person thinks during and after a jam.

The composer of the game is Caramel64, they haven't uploaded the track to Youtube yet but I'll reply to you here again once it's available to listen. In the meantime here's their page: https://tinathecyclops.itch.io

Once again, thank you for your comment, it was very interesting to read.

hi it's me, ms. local composer! thanks for the kind words about my music, they mean a lot to me <3

after delaying it for a couple days since my partner offered to make visualizers for it, i've finally uploaded the whole ost to my youtube channel in a nice little playlist that you can listen to as much as you please. enjoy the tasty songs!

This game is hella fun... and hella hard. Though most of the difficulty is from me trying to get used to the control scheme, I am TERRIBLE at mouse+keyboard setups.

The main complaint I have is that stages take way too long and often overstay their welcome. If the stages' length were cut by like, half or 1/3 then things would flow over much smoother. Also having more varied enemy patterns would be nice. (Also, bullets render under the player. You do not want this in a STG.)

That aside though I still enjoyed the gameplay, everything came together nicely and it was satisfying to FINALLY beat the boss and win. Good work!

Developer

Thank you very much for your feedback! Stage length was something that really bothered me when making and testing the game and they were all actually reduced in length before publishing it, the fact that they feel more like rounds in a single spot rather than stages probably adds to that feeling of length. I'm happy you managed to push through the hardships and beat Mai!

Submitted(+1)

Fun game, i think a score system would be nice, one issue i had is that the main character is above the bullets and this can be a hindrance, also a little more depth with the background, everything else is excellent (sound, art, writting, game desing), good job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I found out about this player above the bullets issue waaaaaaayyy too late after publishing it sadly but I'm happy you managed to have fun with it nonetheless

Submitted(+1)

Quite addicting, loved the art. Didn't get past stage 4, but enjoyed it nonetheless.

Developer

Thanks!

Very interesting and fun-to-play game.

I can see the dev put tons of love into the game, it's really fun to see other characters just being happy in the background.

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad you like it!

this game is HELLA addicting. the art style is also super adorable and just screams with personality. i didnt get to fight the Mai, but i got to stage 4, I really loved the fact that health could only be obtained from snowballs, since it added some risk reward. the only problem i have with this game is that the ice blast that cirno makes when you get hit doesn't follow the player. This makes it really easy for multiple hits to occur if your moving and didn't notice you just got hit

Submitted(+1)

Agreed.

Developer

Thanks for your comment, I'm surprised to see it can be describbed as HELLA addicting so that's good! I have to say I designed the ice burst thing as this sort of safety field where projectiles are destroyed so the player is encouraged to stay there but seeing how the visual effect turned out to be maybe it would've been better for it to follow the player, never thought of that
