A summer to show off cool languages!
The Summer of Translations is a summer-long "game jam" about translations and showcasing non-English narratives.
Whether it is translating a previously released project or creating a new game from scratch, let's add variety in the narrative sphere by sharing stories in non-English languages!
General Rules:
- The piece must be your own. Do not take someone's work to translate without explicit permission (team up with the OG author).
- The piece must be translated in some way, and include at least one non-English language. Even Conlangs are allowed!
- Translation must be human-made!
- It's fine to use machine translators (Google Translation, Reverso, Linguee, etc...) to look for words/verify the translation. But the whole has to be done by a human.
- Open to any narrative mediums. Visual Novels, Interactive Fictions, TTRPGs, scripts, etc...
- Previously released games is a-ok! You don't need to create whole new content to submit
- Translation doesn't have to be new!
- If your game includes a translation, which wasn't made during the jam, come share it anyway!
The goal of the jam is to share content written in non-English languages.
- Teams are allowed!
- NSFW content is all good, just indicate it with your entry.
- No AI/LLM content. So SPAM or Hateful content either.
Recommendations:
Translations can take a lot of time, since every language has different rules, sentence structures and idioms, which can make conveying meaning in another language difficult. So please take this into account when choosing a piece to translate. 500-1000 words is a good starting point.
If you aren't fluent in a language, you may want to ask a native speaker to check for mistakes. Post here to find someone :)
