This jam is now over. It ran from 2021-04-01 07:00:00 to 2021-05-14 07:00:00.

Hello everyone!

This is the second official Crustcord SquareJam

This time we'll be developing an RPG!!!! YAY!!!

How, you may ask? Simple! With the assistance of our good ol' pal, RPG Maker!

Don't have it? No problem! Here are a few free alternatives;

https://www.moddb.com/engines/wolf-rpg-editor (I cannot recommend this one enough, I fully believe it's better than most "real" RPG Makers.)

http://rpg-paper-maker.com/index.php (Still under heavy development, so it's pretty limited in features, but the final product can look VERY nice.)

https://easyrpg.org/ (Tad primitive, but good. Still recommend WolfRPG over this.)

So now that you're set up, here's how things are gonna go down.

You'll have a month to develop your game.

After the month is up, you'll be judged by the community under 5 different criteria;

GAMEPLAY: Although made in RPG Maker, It does not have to be a traditional RPG at all. In fact, it doesn't even need to have any combat! Look to Yume Nikki or Oneshot for examples of non-combat oriented experiences made in RM.

STORY: Don't worry about writing the next MOTHER 3 or UNDERTALE. We're not looking for masterpieces here. Use this jam as a way to explore an interesting idea you've had for a while or develop an OC or two. All that matters is that it's what YOU wanted to write, and you had fun doing so.

ART: Making art is hard, especially when you only have 1 month to develop a game. See this criteria as more of an extra credit type deal more than anything. You don't NEED to make your game look super fancy, using the default RTP for your game is more than okay!

MUSIC/SOUND: This is another 'extra credit' type criteria. You don't need to compose an epic score or be a master of sound design, just make sure that your sounds fit the scene. Default RTP assets are fine here as well!

CREATIVITY: This is the only criteria that matters. The point of this jam is to work within RM's limits and let your creativity flow. I want to see how you can bend the engine in unique and creative ways to craft an interesting experience.

Now lastly, but most importantly;

DON'T FEEL PRESSURED!

This is all just for fun. Use this game jam as a way to learn a new skill and explore game dev in a fun way. For many of you, this will be the first game you've ever made! So treat it as such. Explore new ideas, and learn the engine at your own pace. If you get stuck, don't quit! Google will be your best friend, and so will the documentations of your engine of choice! Still stuck? Don't be afraid to ask me or your fellow participants for help!

Happy RPG Making!
