Hello, I would like to read this VN and rate it for the jam, but even if I can read very violent and scary stories, I am particulary sensitive regarding animal cruelty. Could you spoil what happens exactly (with animals XD), so I can see if I am able to stomach this. Thanks (and sorry^^).

Totally understandable, I would like to be told that as well if I were you.

So there's this one scene where the miller's daughter is reccounting the moment her father killed a milk cow because he felt the cow was no longer useful to him. This was to illustrate how the girl is scared of her own father and of not being seen as useful.

The scene doesn't go into much detail. (A description of how he did it was added because a few people insisted it was impossible to kill a cow with human strenght and it broke the suspension of desbelief for them. I explained it in narration for those types of people. But even so I believe the text to remain tasteful. )

All in all, the main thing in the story is the implied and psychological violence, and the game doesn't contain gore. It's not a game that relishes or fetishizes violence.

Let me know if any of this helps :)

EDIT: I knew I was writing fetishizes wrong! X'D

Thanks a lot! Ok, the scene makes sense and is there to serve the story. It's not gratuitous or pure sadism, so it's something I can stomach. I will be able to read it, thank you very much. I'll leave a review here as soon as it's done. And sorry for my clumsy english but it's not my first language, and even if I can read it perfectly, I write like a 5 years old child XD See you!

Oh I SO relate. I despise gratuitous violence. Give me something like Kentaro Miura's manga Berserk where violence is strong but has meaning and it makes all the difference.

Hahaha Don't worry, you are perfectly sensical-- And full disclosure: I'm not a native English speaker either~

PS. By the way, we are working on a new version (again, lol) correcting a few more things. We will have the newest thing uploaded I believe between tonight or tomorrow. If you are not in a rush.

I got an error when I tried to start the minigame, which is a shame, because it looks great and I was really getting into it.

Hey, thanks for dropping by and let us know. Can I ask a question? Did you download the latest version? The file was updated just last Sunday. The programmers are trying to find the error you describe but the game runs well to them. Could it be you downloaded it some time last week?

Yeah, I only downloaded that version at 10 am today. I re-downloaded it anyway and was able to get it to do the first couple of moves, but then it hung and wouldn't accept the next move.

Developer

Ah man... OK listen, I just tried it myself after downloading it from the page. It's letting me play the minigame fine X'D
Could it be you are using the wrong input with the arrows? ~__~ Remember: it's right-left, up-left-right, and up-down

No. I know how to press arrow keys. I've confirmed multiple times through multiple playthroughs that the minigame definitely either throws an error or hangs after the first couple of moves. You may do with that information what you will.

Developer

OK, thank you, we will investigate that further. The game is due another update soon anyway.

I love this! I really enjoyed this retelling of a classic story. The art really suited the dark atmosphere and every line reminded me of straw. I quickly became immersed in the story and wanted to learn more about what would happen to the Miller's Daughter. It was good to see the theme of sexism touched upon in this dark tale. It made that era feel real and it made the Miller's Daughter's will to survive through stealing food feel heartbreaking.
There's a few of the longer lines that don't fit inside the text box. And I did take a few tries before realizing I was supposed to use the arrow keys to play the minigame (I was swiping on my touchpad at first).
However, I enjoyed playing through this game and was determined to play past the bad endings so I could help the Miller's Daughter with her fate. Good job! :D

<3 You humble us with your amazing and thoughtful review. Me personally, this was such a nice surprise to find. I'm very glad the themes and intent of the game reached you, I couldn't ask for more. And of course I'm glad you got to find the miller's daughter 's happy ending.

We are still working to make the game better in everyway. An update is coming between tonight and tomorrow. Thank you again for your words and time. And I hope we see each other again, once upon a time!

I finally got to play this.  I love it so far even though I've only gotten the bad end.  The mini game is so difficult but I think I was getting the hang of it.  Great job and I love the voice of the creature so much.

Guys, I'm so very sorry! :( I just realized you have been playing a bugged version of the game, where you get the "BAD END" even if you win the minigame. That's why you couldn't get past that part! We uploaded a bugged version!! *covers face in shame*

We are making an update these days and uploading the game with that and a few other fixes (sound, including the updated Monster's voice by the talented Noah). I hope you can forgive us for the frustration and give the game another chance in the future X'D
