I typically don't like games like this, but this one was pretty fun! The progression is not too difficult, though I admit I am currently stuck. I'm confident a good 5 minutes or less of exploration would get me the answer. May come back to this one, but gotta check out more games!

Writing could use a little fixing, as the grammar sometimes detracted from the story. The bloodstains, random skeletons, and mansion setting were all well done. Puzzles were also pretty clever overall.

You can tell where I have been correcting grammar and where I did not, ha ha... I was handed the project pretty late and had just less than one week to playtest, proofread, and add some stuff to make the game easier to play.

If you are stuck, a NPC can tell you what to do with an item, should you show it to him.

Thanks for playing!

I didn't think I would like this game, but actually it's one of my favorites from the jam!

Things I liked:

  • Directions are pretty clear and I didn't get stuck too much
  • Definitely a horror setting
  • Puzzles do a good job of walking the line between challenging but not impossible
  • Art is used pretty well and the map layouts are easy to navigate
  • Satisfying ending

Things I did not like:

  • While the game on the whole did pretty well guiding me, there was one point near the end when I was trying to figure out how to get past the ghosts in the maze where I did get a bit stuck and almost gave up
  • Grammar is pretty rough
  • Some maps are a bit too large; it takes a fair bit of time to get through them even when running
  • It's not necessary to display the lantern text after the first time, and after you have cleared one of the gates (like getting the lantern or getting past a ghost) it's not necessary to have more of the same obstacle in the player's way.

Criticisms aside, this was a pretty well put-together entry. I am impressed.

Thank you for the feedback, I'm understand about the Grammar problem and lack of hints and guides.
But aside those issues, I'm glad that you really enjoying the game. ^^

A NPC can help you narrow down the uses of certain items if you show it to them. And I did attempt to fix the grammar for Scar, but I was just busy that month and fixed what I could.

Thanks for playing!

I'm going to be honest. The puzzles in this game need more guidance. The maps are really well done, but I had a very difficult time getting through this because several quest items you need give you no clue as to how you're supposed to use them. Most of my time was spent going through rooms I'd already picked through trying to figure out what I've missed, since I had no idea what to do after a while. The puzzles also need some explanation in order to solve some of them, otherwise the player won't know what to do. The only way I was able to figure out the book puzzle was because I saw the game streamed and remembered the answer.  If you come back to this after the jam, I really recommend putting in different descriptions for some of the items, at least to help the player figure out what it is they need to do next.

Despite that, though, I want you to know that the atmosphere and setting are really good. The lighting was a great way to pressure the player, and the insane amount of blood and skeletons really let us know that something's really off with the manor. Good job.

Thank you for you feedback, apologize if the game is really lack of guidance and for the book puzzle, I've already make a fail switch in case you cannot solve the puzzle. At the end, glad you really enjoying the atmosphere of the game itself.

No need to apologize. Remember that one of our jobs as reviewers is to point out what we think could be a problem for other players, and that jams are how we learn what to look out for. :) If you make another game with this level of interaction, this is just something for you to keep in the back of you mind for next time.

There is a NPC you can show items to, and while the hint he gives you is not straight out the answer, he does narrow down what it is used for a lot.

The book puzzle did require some meta knowledge (I forgot to put the code somewhere), but that's what the switch is for.

Thanks for playing!

I wasn't able to finish the game, though I think that was due to my own confusion than a problem with the game itself. But what I did see was pretty interesting, I died multiple times and kept wanting to find new ways to die so that was fun! The maps felt a bit large, but all the blood and skeletons did create a creepy setting.

I did run into a bug in the repeating hallway, I had the crystal but I tried to leave through the right door instead of going left and that triggered the repeating without letting the crystal do its thing. I did save right before entering though, so at least I didn't lose any progress.

Thank you for your feedback! I'll take a look of that bug that you mention but glad you enjoying the game so far! <3
