LIMITATION REVEAL 

The Limitation for the first SHMUPJAM is ....

First, I apologize as i was unable to upload the full GIF due to file size. 

Second, the Limitation is "3 Upgrades." This means you game should have 3 Upgrades. No more. No less. 3 and only 3. What is counted as an upgrade? That is entirely up to you the gamedev to determine for your game.  If you go with something unconventional, please state what the upgrades are in the games description.

SHMUP-JAM is a 10-day-long video game development jam that occurs every month on Itch.io.

We love SHMUP's. What is a SHMUP? SHMUP is a mash up of the phrase "Shootem' up," and it is a genre of video games that is one of the most beloved kind of video games since the beginning of video game time.

THEME & LIMITATION

This jams theme is "Dragons."  Remember, theme is (optional). Feel free to interpret it however you want.  

At the start of the jam a special limitation will be revealed. This limitation must also be used in your game.

 Why a limitation? We feel that limitations breeds creativity. You get the theme early, so you can plan ahead, Just keep in mind that you may have to change your idea when the limitation is revealed

The limitation is a special condition that your game must follow, but is open to interpretation. If you are unsure if your idea doesn't fit the limitation  just remember that everyone will interpret it differently.

The limitation will be announced when the jam starts. 

RATING!

At the end of the Jam, there will be a rating period that lasts 5 days. Your game will be rated on:

FUN- How much did you enjoy playing the game.         

DESIGN- How well was the theme and limitation used in the game. (Please don't give bad rating is theme wasn't used as it was optional.)           

VISUALS AND SOUNDS- How did the games graphics and sounds appeal to you.            

RULES/FAQ!

Rules:

 Not reading the rules is not an excuse for breaking them.

 No NSFW content, offensive content, excessive gore/violence.

Any games that do not follow the rules will be removed from the jam without warning.

Games that do not follow the theme/limitation will be removed.

FAQ:

Can I submit more than one game?  No. While we can't stop you from making 2 games, at once, we advise against that and ask that you focus on making 1 game that is of the utmost quality you can make.

Can I submit a game I already made?  No. You may only submit projects made within the time frame. We do check.

Can I make changes during the rating period? You may make minor bug fixes but are not allowed to change the game.

What engine can I use? You can use any engine you'd like. Just make sure your game has a windows download at the very least. We would prefer the game be playable in HTML.

What assets are allowed? You can use any you have the rights to use. We do ask that if you made premade assets by another creator that you please credit and link to the creator's page in the games description.

How can you tell if I used premade assets or made the game at an earlier stage? Outside obvious red flags, we don't really check. Jams are for fun. Bend the rules if you want, just don't cheat yourself and be a jerk to mess with genuine folk.

Help! I couldn't submit on time, what do I do? There will be an announcement on the discord server, as well as a community post about how to submit late if you missed the deadline.

When does the next SHMUP Jam start, and when will the limitation be announced? SHMUP Jam takes place once a month from the 1st to the 11th(this month was adjusted for Ludum Dare), depending on your time zone. SHMUP Jams last 10 days. Limitations are announced at the start of the Jam. Themes are given once the next jam is listed on itch.io.
