Where this game shines is in itβs art! The style is very cool and not something that we typically get to see.
Outside of art it works well at being the point and click game it seems to set out to be! So congrats on that! My only actual complaint is the fact that while the art is good, I find myself quickly getting lost in figuring out what is around me and where I am going.
Overall, solid piece! Good job!
The art style was really cool-very original and good for building the ambience. It could be hard to see what you could/could not interact with though, and sometimes it could take multiple clicks to add an object to the inventory. We also couldn't work out how to move the basement key into the "active inventory"- it didn't seem to be added automatically like the centre key was, which limited our progress. What we played was very atmospheric and creepy though. Looking forward to playing this again post game jam with the addition of the map and arrows, as these HUD improvements will probably make a really big difference :D
Love the art and the ambiance here. This really oozes suspense, and has a lot of potential for a great point and click game. The main issue I had is just that it's really understand the area that you're exploring. Part of that is hard to avoid because of the art style, but also I think some aspects of the game design make it harder as well. I had no idea I could turn right or left until I put my cursor in a specific place on the far sides of the screen, I think that mechanic could work better. Overall, good start, just needs some more content and refinement.
Thank you so much for your comments, in the post jam release there will be a map and arrow buttons on the side of the screen.
Really loved the art style and sound design! Well done!
Oozes with style and the sound design was great!
The style and drawings are great, as others have already commented it is a bit confusing to play. But on the other hand it is original, and it is quite polished. So good work!
I loved the singing and how it made the game feel much more vast, empty, and dreamlike. It was difficult to navigate between areas and know where to go next, but when I did finally find a new area I was always excited to explore it.
Happy that you enjoy it.
Oh man, so many confusing feelings! A lot of hard work and talent were obviously poured into this project! And it is definitely unique and stands out from the crowd.
The first thing that catches the eye is obviously the art. Very nice and atmospheric. However, it was also the major part of my frustrations - it's 'doodly' nature combined with a slideshow esthetic, makes it very hard to get the bearings of your surroundings. It was difficult to imagine the space around me and where to go. I got stuck on the basement part, i found some doors that I couldn't walk through, tried to use the basement key on them a hundred times, to no avail ;C
Another thing that kinda took away the enjoyment was overload of the ambient/creepy sounds, especially in the basement. There were always at least 2 playing at any time, without any connection to things happening on the screen. If you would take them down a couple of notches, they would nicely improve the atmosphere.
But yeah, your imagination runs wild =D This is one of the most original games i tried on this jam so far!
Thanks, we appreciate your constructive feed-back. We are currently working on a post-jam release. The game was conceptualized as a virtual haunted house for a community center in our hometown (Montreal). It will be part of the activites planned for the neighborhood during halloween.
We used this jam as a way to test the layout and to see how people react. For the final release, we are planning to add a map and fix most issues with the keys and give a proper objective to the player.
Really nice art style!
Excellent work! I enjoy it very much!!!! This visual style of combining photograh and painting is cool :D. The only weakness is the switch of different maps makes it easy to lost my sense of direction.
Hi! I think the game is very original, the story and the aesthetics are good like the horror scenes. Maybe, with this kind of camera movements I would put a minimap to orientate oneself in the game.
Good input making a multilanguage game :)
Hi! Thank you so much and you are right the mini map will be added in the post-jam version.
I really like the visual style and it gets really creepy especially when you go down the stairs. The biggest problem is that it's really hard to orient myself because all directions look too similar to each other. I couldn't finish the game but loved the atmosphere, well done!
Really liked the work put into the hand drawn frames. The gameplay was a bit confusing but we kinda figured it out. Great work on this game! :D
Hi, thanks for the feedback.
All right, I got to play it and enjoyed it very much. The art and the sound design are both very noteworthy, and being able to set the brightness at the beginning set the mood greatly. It was REALLY hard to understand which direction you were going at some points, and I got really badly lost in the basement. I couldn't find a way to put items on my hotbar, so the only item I could use was the rec center key. I would certainly like to make my way through the rest of the game, though... it was certainly worth it, and I'm very glad you were able to fix the problem that was keeping me from playing it.
Thanks for the feed-back, a few bugs need some fixing indeed.
I'm not able to play because the game gets hung up on the light adjustment screen. Is there a key you're supposed to press?
You have to click on the 'ok' button down the screen. it's a bit clunky but if you insist you should be able to access the main menu title. After that the game should work fine. I recomand you to play in full screen.
I read that on the information for the game, but the fullscreen button wasn't available for whatever reason. It's normally at the bottom left under the frame in most HTML games on this site but I didn't see it there this time.
This problem is fixed. :) You can try now.
