The README explains how to play, and the first level is kind of a tutorial. The macOS and Linux builds are experimental and may not work. It's possible to add your own movies and music to demo mode but that's also experimental.

The web build is highly experimental and not recommended unless you cannot use the standalone builds. Demo mode does not work at all in this build.

I actually really enjoyed this!

First off, the gameplay is  surprisingly thorough!  With a lot of different things to select from, a complex item placement mechanism, and  then all the playback stuff, it seems like a lot of effort has gone into the core mechanics!

I did find it funnily realistic through how on my first job, I made sure everything was neat and properly done, while by my last I just plopped every thing down anywhere and was done with it 😂

Drawings were on-point as always!  I really liked the "Special" items: some gave me a good chuckle! I feel like they could have gone even further, but I also get why you would want to keep it somewhat reserved 😅

I did kinda miss the playback feature and had to reply the game to actually try it out! Though with that said it was worth doing so! some effort must have really gone into making that work, and really interesting use of (I assume) render textures and spatial audio! Honestly very interesting technical achievement!

I wonder whether the game was a bit too long?  Or whether it just needed something to spice things up at the end? I liked how one mission was just placing a single speaker, I think you could go further with the  one-off missions like that, and that might keep things fresh for longer.

Otherwise though it was a really great entry! Well done!

Did I accidentally make corporate satire again?

The playback feature is something I wanted from the very beginning. Unfortunately, I couldn't really find a way to integrate it with the actual mechanics, and its kind of an "it's there if you want it" feature.

The missions were definitely designed in a hurry, and in hindsight I should have spent more time with those concepts. The game mechanics were built first, and the missions were tacked together around them.

This was an interesting one, being able to physically place the items in the world in a very janky house flipper fashion was fun and playing the demo mode was cool. I did love how janky the physics could be, and the sudden impact effect of everything colliding! Oh and the constant hum on the one old disc player was funny.

I did notice a bit of weirdness where the game wouldn't recognize I had placed an item type down, so I would have to remove and add the object again. This might have been why I was unable to beat the rapper level, I tried spawning lots of speakers but still was not enough.

I also thought the controls and command flow was a little awkward, but I got used to it. I know this sort of game is a one-off for you so I won't dwell on it too much.

I thought the little cutscenes between levels was funny, I don't know if anyone else got the Abbott and Costello reference but I liked it lol. And the gag level with the crappy speaker was great!

Admittedly I think I agree with the game maybe being a bit too slow for this jam, though I still enjoyed it and I like the jam having variety.

Overall this was pretty cool, technically impressive and a nice experimental game, which I know you wanted to try more of. Good work!

Items not being recognized as placed shouldn't be possible, but this has hardly gone through a full QC suite, so who knows. If I recall, the rapper level requires sufficient system power (ie more amplifiers), so that might have been an issue as well.

I kind of went back and forth on how janky I wanted the physics and controls to be, but in the end it was kind of decided by what was fastest/easiest to do. It seems that it somewhat worked out- there's definitely a spread of opinions in the comments.

That was an impressive game.

So, as usual, couple of nitpicks. Firstly - the very wonky controls for placing things were a bit of a pain in the backside (for example, genuinely wasn’t able to put the flatscreens into the wall brackets, so I had to leave them depressingly laying against the wall on the floor). Secondly - it didn’t seem like the non-front speakers were functional in demo mode (even when providing the appropriate amount of power) - but then again, my own audio setup is a cheap crappy headset, so I’m guessing that those speakers might be connected to the appropriate output channels for players who actually do have an audio setup - however, it did kinda make the end results of the speaker setups feel a bit underwhelming. Finally - I’m not sure if levels 3-5 were meant to have background music or not - the first two definitely did, but it sorta cut out from there, idk if that was intentional or a bug.

Anywho, nitpicks aside, I still found this game somewhat enjoyable, even if the controls did make it somewhat frustrating at times. I also liked the optimization task of trying to squeeze the budget as far as it would go without resorting to a mountain of default cubes. Didn’t have anything kicking around on my hard drive for use with the media helper, but that component in itself is an impressive technical achievement, and honestly congrats on getting this pretty inventive interpretation of the theme up and running. Great job!

The wonky controls were an idea that didn't quite work out, I think. I thought it would be funny, and I didn't have a ton of time to tweak them, but it seems they ended up often frustrating. It's worth noting that the wall brackets were a late addition, and they're kinda wonky in and of themselves.

As for the channels, I think the issue is with the source material. Big Buck Bunny just doesn't have a lot going on in the surround channels. There's some logic to fill channels from similar/adjacent channels, but at the end of the day each speaker plays a source channel- there's no true upmixing or downmixing going on. Subwoofers are particularly useless since they only play the LFE channel. In hindsight, I could have done some trickery with the source files instead of just splitting the provided audio into individual channels.

There's a diegetic, in-universe reason why there's no music past the second level. Think about what you sold them...

The media helper is something I personally would want to see in the game like this, but I can't help but feel I should have spent my time elsewhere. It's one of those things where few players are going to engage with the game enough- and be technically minded enough- to go through that kind of effort.

This game has interesting concepts and the dialogues are funny. Unfortunately, the gameplay is simply too tedious to be funny. 

How you rotate objects feels very weird and hard to explain, but what's important is that it makes rotating objects to a perfectly upright angle very difficult.

How you move objects feels very janky, so janky that it really isn't funni. You can move objects through the colliders of other objects, and they'll not get pushed out until you press confirm. This makes nicely putting things on top of each other tedious at best, and almost impossible at worst.

Not to mention that your also have to MANUALLY set up the channels for each speaker through a list of texts that look very similar to each other, and depending on the level, you may need to do this 4~8 times in a row.

Due to how tedious it is to set up an actually nice-looking studio, I ended up just piling all the equipments at the center of the room, and all the clients seem to be okay with that 😕

And do you know what else that all the clients also love? Snake oil 🐍

I kinda went back and forth on how janky I wanted to make the controls. In the end a lot of decisions came down to what was fastest/easiest to do.

The key to positioning things is to use gravity to drop them into place. I did at one point have collision enabled in move mode, but it was much worse than the current setup. There's a console command to enable it.

Actually scoring on how good the setup was is something that was out of scope from the beginning. It does somewhat kill the challenge once you realize that, but it's meant to be more of a chill building game. Which in and of itself may

The snake oil was a late addition, but I think it works. There were a lot of snake oil type products I thought about specifically parodying, but it was quicker and maybe funnier to just put in the literal thing.

I had a lot of fun with this game! It's a bit tricky to grapple with all the information thrown at you at once, though. But hey, I managed to balance a flatscreen on top of two desks.

I want this game to be finished and released. It's cool, very interesting gameplay, but moving and configuring objects is kinda hard, I thing it'd be better if you use mouse wheel instead of [R] to choose options.

I think this game is going to be a one-off, unfortunately. I have a lot of other projects on the go, and I've done most of what I reasonably wanted to do here.
